Boeing to test lasers on 777 in 2018

Interesting developments up in Everett...

According to Wired, Boeing plans to experiment with laser and/or lidar on a 777 testbed to spot turbulence along with some other new tech some time in 2018. Good read.

Why not make use of that NTU 747, L/N1435 instead of building a new 777 as a testbed?

The 2018 program will have some 30 systems on the 777, a new cargo aircraft FedEx is leasing back to Boeing.


So the aircraft will be delivered to FedEx anyway.

That frame is evidently being tasked to testing systems and integration for the VC-X program.
