track plane from flightaware.com address maning

Mon Sep 11, 2017 7:18 pm

Hi All,

I am trying to parse flightaware.com address like thess

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/GGN ... /CYYZ/CYZR

and want to understand what 2255Z means. I got that CYYZ and CYZR are departure and destination in the ICAO format, 20170911 is date.

I believe this is not random value. Can you please help?

Thanks

It's the scheduled departure time in zulu time (UTC). 2255Z would be 1855 EDT.

To expand, in general terms in aviation all times (meteorology, flight plan, ATC...) are in UTC, apart from times that passengers see and hear (information screens, tickets...).
