Imminent North Korean missile launch affecting block times of transpacific flights?

Sun Sep 10, 2017 7:51 am

I am wondering if another imminent missile launch by North Korea is affecting the block times of certain transpacific flights departing in the next 24 hours. I happened to discover this as I was checking the flight information for a flight a relative is flying. All data is pulled from FlightAware.

CA 992 - normally blocked for 10h 20m, arriving in PEK at 15:20, Sep 10 departure from YVR is blocked for 11h 29m arriving at 16:29
MU 598 - normally blocked for 12h 10m, arriving in PVG at 05:40, Sep 10 departure from YVR is blocked for 13h 58m arriving at 07:28
MU 582 - normally blocked for 12h 15m, arriving in PVG at 16:35, Sep 10 departure from YVR is blocked for 13h 53m arriving at 18:13
CZ 330 - normally blocked for 12h 45m, arriving in CAN at 17:05, Sep 10 departure from YVR is blocked for 14h 45m arriving at 19:05
CZ 378 - normally blocked for 13h 05m, arriving in CAN at 16:40, Sep 10 departure from YVR is blocked for 14h 45m arriving at 18:20
JL 17 - normally blocked for 9h 55m, arriving in NRT at 16:20, Sep 10 departure from YVR is blocked for 12h 6m arriving at 18:31

All the Air Canada departures that I checked have standard block times. Also, all the aircraft I mentioned above depart YVR, as that is where I am based. I do not believe this issue is affected by anything from the YVR stand point.

Also, as I type this, the Sep 9 departure of MU 582 from YVR (currently still in flight) shows a 2h 15m arrival delay into PVG, despite it already being over the Yellow Sea off the coast of China, and having a relative uneventful flight path.

Mainland China flights have had some pretty epic delays in the last couple of months. Might just be that.
