As Woodreau says just get whatever you like. If you're flying GA, the yearly subscription cost is trivial compared to an a few hours of flying. If you're flying professionally, penny-pinching regarding the tools for the job such as logbook, flight bag and sunglasses is more trouble than it is worth.
Personally I wouldn't consider a logbook without purchasing a mobile option, and for LogBook Pro the mobile bit is subscription based anyway.
- Logbook Pro Desktop is a one-time purchase of US$70 for one computer, but things like Cloud Backup and the Mobile App are subscription based at US$30 per year and US$40 per year respectively.
- Log Ten Pro has an annual subscription. If you use iPad/iPhone only, it is US$80 per year.
- A third option is mccPilotlog, which I've heard good things about. The Enterprise edition is a "lifetime" purchase for €69. Good value.
For the record I use LogTen Pro and I think it is great.
