Cusco Jetway Situation

Thu Aug 10, 2017 12:56 pm

Yesturday I flew into Cusco, Peru for the first time. One of the coolest airports in the world I do have do admit. We rolled up to the terminal like normal and I noticed none of the jetways were working, and looked like they hadn't been working in a while. So we de-boarded via air stairs at a terminal that had jetways. Does anyone know the backstory to this? I'm not complaining as been avgeek in the 21st century, their isn't much of a chance to use air stairs anymore. Kinda weird and unexpected but I was just wondering if anyone had the details! (Btw no planes were connected to jetways).

Was just there and agree, a phenomenal airport to visit. We deplaned via stairs from LAN A-320 and I think it has to do with security separation (arrivals v departures) in the relatively small terminal. Our departure was boarded (as were others I saw) via the jetway.

Google maps appears to show one working with an image date of 2017. Don't know when in 2017, however.

That would be common practice in Australia and much of Scandinavia to at least also offer stair deboarding for the last rows with the front rows sometimes getting jetways. The elimination of stairs is more of a thing in America than it is in the rest of the world just look at Ryanair operations but also overcrowded airports in the Middle East like AUH.

It looks like it was actually taken on August 4, 2016. There is also a picture from a few days earlier of the unoccupied gate closest to the terminal also being used, and about a month earlier for the other unoccupied one to be in use.

Which airline were you on? I flew LATAM in July to CUZ and deplaned via the jet way. It was an amazing flight even if I thought we were going to land in someone's living room.
Looking forward to the new AA

What will become of this airport when the new one outside of town is complete?
