South Atlantic Oceanic Procedures?

Thu Jul 27, 2017 3:11 pm

Googling this has not provided me with an answer (though I am probably the world's worst 'Googler' - I never seem to enter the right keywords!).

I am reasonably familiar with North Atlantic tracks, NAT A to NAT F, and when I fly in FS9 or FSX from, say, London to Boston, via Shannon/Gander, my ATC programme (OnCourse PF3) sets up Atlantic crossing and SELCAL automatically (pretty neat it is too, in practice).

But I have never been sure how things work if I am flying from, say, Lisbon to Rio. What real-world oceanic procedures are used when crossing from Europe to South America? There surely must be Oceanic Airspace procedures for southern crossing too (and presumably SELCAL is used, as in a North Atlantic crossing)?

Thanks to anyone able to shed some light on this for me,

Martin

There are some fixed airways from Iberia thru to the Canaries and some on to SA or the Flt plan is filed with L/L coordinates. Comms are CPDLC or HF, if not CPDLC. No track system is in place as the traffic isn't very heavy. Dakar controls the middle between Brazil and Spanish Control (Canaries).

Do you have access to Jeppesen Airway manuals a more specifically the Airway enroute charts?

A good source is SkyVector.
You can go to the desired part of the world and check the applicable map layer on the top right. In your case it's "World Hi".
