KEF busiest day ever?

Sat Jun 17, 2017 9:04 am

Tomorrow 18th June KEF is scheduled to receive 106 flight arrivals and 102 departures - this excludes cargo movements. This I think is the first time the 100 barrier has been broken both in- and outbound on the same day.

There are plenty of reports of the the airport bursting at the seams at peak hours. Have developments at the airport this summer caught up with its dramatic growth? Last time I flew through KEF was 2012 and it was a very pleasant experience.

Where are you getting your information from?

Kefalonia only sees a maximum of about 15-20 flights a day and these are during the summer months only, todays arrival board confirms this!

Indeed. Kefalonia is EFL, not KEF. This isn't about Kefalonia, it's about Keflavik.

I wonder how they can handle that amount of traffic, the terminal at Keflavik is rather small.

Why was this thread moved from civil aviation where airport passenger figures and milestones are discussed regularly to this graveyard where it does not seem to belong?

That's a crazy number of flights. And the facility isn't that large. Wonder if there's a bubble forming here.

Today FI had 2 departures out of AMS both scheduled at 1400 local time. The FI501 and FI507, with TFISJ and TFISK. Assuming the flightplan will be more or less identical, does this not pose a problem to ATC in terms of similarity and confusion?

No, it doesn't. To ATC these are just two seperate flights and that they both follow the same route and are operated by the same airline does not make any difference.

Only wonder why they put two planes on it instead of one.

Probably because it doesn't involve an American airport IMHO. Have you ever wondered why these forums are so heavily weighted towards American 'themes'...?
