Private Plane

Mon Jun 12, 2017 8:35 am

Hi,

Random question. If i owned a private plane ((not a small jet, a plane so more than 16 pax) something like Donald Trump when he would fly on his personal plane around the world) and i fly from one airport to another, what is the difference between it being a private plane and a airliner plane?
-Can it choose any time to land and take off, or do the slot restrictions still apply like they do to airliners?
-Do they use gates to board and disembark or do they park and stay at a bay away from the terminal?
-When it comes to checking in and baggage and the like, do they utilise a checkin gate with a predetermined airline or is their baggage taken from the car direct to the plane or a seperate screening area?
-Does each person travelling on the plane require a paper ticket of some sort to be in the airport/board the plane or can they just walk straight to the plane when they are ready to board?
-Can they literally arrive 5 minutes before they want to depart or do they still follow the standard timeline for airliners depending on if its domestic or international?

Slot restricted, and often a lower priority to scheduled services. There is 4 different slots, takeoff, landing, parking, and enroute.

Normally at a remote ramp, but they can use a terminal if they pay the fees. Remote ramp is normally quicker.

Depends on the airport, some will have a check in desk for the flight so the baggage and crew/passengers are screened like any other passenger then ground transport air-side to the aircraft. Sometime they have "fixed based operators" (FBO) which provide all the services from fuel, catering, cleaning & toilet servicing, ground handling, checking & security.

Ticket is not required, but they will need to be on a passenger manifest is travelling internationally.

Yes, but that is unrealistic. If the crew and luggage is sent ahead and ready to go, and you have your slot, you can jump on and go.

Pretty much as Zeke described. In the past the TSA has invoked all sorts of regulations & policies aimed at General aviation Part 125 and 135 Operators, but most of it has been eliminated or streamlined. Different airports handle these large private aircraft in various ways, but in general you the passenger are not impacted. The crews on the other hand have additional security requirements that must be observed and posting them on the Nets serves no one well.
