A330 Spool Times on Take Off

Sun Apr 30, 2017 6:29 pm

Does anyone have any idea why the RR-powered A330s spool so slowly when thrust levers are set?

Levers are in the FLX/MCT gate at 0:18, and the engines slowly spool up to the EPR.

Does this affect the take off run (wasted TODA)? Or the requirement to have thurst set by a certain speed especially when light?

For comparison, the time between thrust levers in the detent and the thrust set is much shorter on the RR powered A380

The Trent 700 has a function called MEASTO (Modified Engine Acceleration Schedule for TakeOff) which controls the engine acceleration. It also has KOZ (Keep Out Zone), that is basically so it does not dwell at specific RPMs.

Both of these functions are there to prevent various engine issues.
