Hawaiian a330 in delta hanger

Mon Mar 27, 2017 5:15 am

Today I was spotting at SEA and saw a Hawaiian a330 in the hanger. What could it be doing here?

Pretty much boils down to maintenance or repair.

Also... ;)

Its likely the Delta Tech Ops does HAs mainland work, they are one of the few 330 operators in the states and have a great tech ops team that works for a lot of different airlines

DL does all the hangar checks on the A330 for HA. I think SEA does 'A' checks and MSP does the 'C' check.

yep. HA and VS are DL's largest A330 customers right now. I know they were working on some some contracts for more 330 c checks but for whatever reason TechOps management is going to "if it isn't MIL/DOD work its stupid!" again. (I know the reason, piss poor planning and now the company is desperate for hangar bays, and just plain stupidity)

also DL does, IIRC, HA 330/767 checks in LAX (330 and 767) and PHX (767).
Will be interesting to see what happens once the hangar is LAX is up and running.

Negative. The 767s at LAX are done by a third party vendor (the same one that recently overtook DLs tow gig for the 330s and does the compressor washes for same), although letter checks on the 767 are a rarity there. It's really mainly nightly/service check and a TS/RR gig for those.

I don't know about PHX.

As for the new Hangar, I doubt the 767s will be part of that. They went to a third party in the first place as DL didn't want them for what HAL is willing to pay. As well, they're probably going away as more of the 321LRs start coming online for LAX anyway. ..

Ah thanks for the update. Didn't realize DL has lost the work.

Sorry, I mean DL's new hangar. Interested to see what DL does with it.

QF also do some work for HA's a330's; there are some pictures of one in the QF hangar at BNE floating around social media.

The HA A330 are on Delta maintenance program, so they are responsible for getting the work accomplished, either in house or contracted.

We do the overnight work for them here in SEA. Rarely are they in the hangar, we work them at the gate. Usually involves 6 hours of work, followed by 4 hours of paperwork. Nobody enjoys working that contract.
