Where does UA fly the 777-300ER out of?

Wed May 01, 2019 4:31 am

What hubs does UA fly the 777-300ER out of? The only ones that I can think of are SFO and EWR?

Aside from rotational domestic flights, that's basically it.

The international routes are all ex-SFO/EWR.

I know there's a EWR-SFO rotation, not sure of what else domestically

That’s correct. I think that’s it.

I can't even find this EWR-SFO rotation (in either direction). Plenty of 772s but no 773s. Is it only certain days of the week?

So far, just SFO and EWR. A quick look from FR24 at some of the routes they've flown:

SFO-LHR
SFO-FRA
SFO-HKG
SFO-TPE
SFO-TLV
SFO-NRT

EWR-TLV
EWR-HKG
EWR-NRT
EWR-BOM

They will also sometimes sub in on other routes such as transcon, hub-to-hub, and Hawaii. A few interesting ones I found were SFO-HNL, LAX-SFO, IAH-DEN, LAX-EWR, and LAX-IAH

Why no 777-300ER service out of ORD?

Likely become some sCO 772s have freed up from EWR (EWR-BOM/TLV/NRT were all sCO 777 variant) for ORD flights to Asia and have the highly capable GE90 engines for it. That an quite a few sUA 777s are likely in for Polaris mods at the moment.

Every now and then they will sub one into DEN in place of a -200, either from SFO or HNL.

There are no more domestic 77W rotations. 77W are rotated at NRT, doing SFO-NRT-EWR and vice versa.

As other posters have mentioned, the schedule routes are either from SFO or EWR. There is still some scheduling slack in the fleet so they end up flying quite a few “odd-jobs” covering routes normally operated by the 77A or 77E.

Recently the 77W has operated routes such as DEN/SFO-HNL round trips and even SFO-OGG. It’s quite a sight seeing a plane as large as the 77W at an airport as small as OGG. It’s longest runway is only 6995 ft, a testament to the performance capabilities of the 777.

Indeed. Enough to give one a vision of the Dooliitle Raid B-25's launching off the deck of the Hornet in 1942! :wideeyed:
That's gotta be a max-power take off, and I'd venture to guess it uses every inch of that runway!

Ok, sad to see that go. Guess EWR has enough 77W flights to not make it as necessary.

It was nice to have the 77W on EWR-SFO when the type was added.
