Transiting FRA Questions

Thu Feb 07, 2019 12:11 am

Hello all, sorry for the questions but after reviewing FRA’s website I’m still not clear.

Travelling HKG-FRA-TPA on LH797 and LH482. It appears arrival and departure are both out of Termial 1. Does this mean I just stay in Terminal 1 for the 5 hours? Is there any passport control? Are there any shower facilities I can pay for? Or any small rooms to rent to grab some sleep?

Thank you-
Mike

You will stay in T1 and there will not be a passport control since you're transiting non-Schengen (continental EU) to non-Schengen. You can however choose to enter Germany (which should be visa free on both US and Hong Kong passports). There are showers available in your area of the terminal for €6/$8 (https://www.frankfurt-airport.com/en/tr ... owers.html)

There's a visitor terrace in terminal 2 if you would like to spend some time outside with a nice on the tarmac. To get there you would have to clear customs and immigration and take the shuttle bus or the skyline train to terminal 2.

Looking at the flights of the past week, you will most likely arrive at a Z gate in Terminal 1. The Tampa flight seems to be a bit of a mix, sometimes from a Z gate sometimes from a B gate. There is a chance that the B gate means the plane is on a tarmac position.
I haven't done a transfer like that before, but it seems that to get from Z to B, you can user the Sky Line train. The maps does show a passport control point, but I assume that's for those arriving from the A area.
