Thai 747 domestic ops

Wed Jan 09, 2019 5:32 pm

Hello all,

Since being based in Vietnam, a quick hop to Thailand to catch the last of TG's 744s on the domestic BKK-HKT route has been a must-do of mine. Now I finally have the chance this summer, a sift through the TG booking engine no longer shows the 747 on this route come June/July.

Despite the usual TG merry-go-round of equipment changes, as far back as I can remember this route has typically seen at least 1x 747 service (TG203/4) per day and sometimes up to 3x (TG221/2 in the evening & an additional morning flight).

At the time of writing the 747 is still making daily hops down to HKT, so can anyone clarify if we're looking at a seasonal reduction/reallocation of the planes come summertime or a permanent removal of them from domestic routes? Cheers!

Check BKK-CNX as the 744 sometimes gets deployed there.

Seems even more sporadic than on the HKT route. Can't find any 747s to CNX in the summer months.

Idk, but TG hasn't deployed the 744 to CNX for quite sometime already.

This was the route i was able to fly Thai's 747 on back in 2013. For $70 more I even got to fly business class on the upper deck
As of Dec 2018 I've flown 417,862 miles on 250 flights on 51 airplane types with 55 airlines traveling thru 97 airports in 43 countries. I've visited 59 countries. 2019 is looking like a pretty decent year for me.

Hey guys,
I flew Bangkok-Phuket round trip on a Thai 'double 300' set in 1998 : 747-300 southbound and 777-300 northbound, both in business class, dirt cheap! If I remember correctly, the 747 flight I boarded was traveling Osaka-Bangkok-Phuket and I simply flew the domestic leg ...?!?!
Cheers,

I'm not questioning the existence or value of the 747 on the route (it was set to cost me under $30!), but if anyone has any information about its deployment to HKT in June/July of this year and beyond I'd greatly appreciate it.
