United 772 vs 77W on NRT routes from US East Coast

Fri Jul 06, 2018 3:51 am

I'm looking at flying my mom and I to Tokyo in March 2019 time frame using miles from RIC. Upon an initial search on united.com I'm coming up with 2 possibilities. Either a 77W via EWR or a 772 via IAD. While I understand there has been some controversy regarding the cramped nature of UA's new Economy product on the 77W, I'm wondering if IAD on a 772 would be a better choice. I haven't flown on a UA 777 in over 10 years so my knowledge on them is extremely outdated. Seatguru is showing 4 different configurations of the UA 772 and based on the united seat map of the flight I'm considering it looks like I'd be on V2 from IAD. So from an Economy point of view (seat comfort, legroom, IFE, etc) should I choose IAD (772) or EWR (77W)?
