When did OZ have B11's on order? The only undelivered a/c they had on order to my knowledge were three 72S.

I've heard this as well, but have never seen any photos of it.
Also, why was this thread moved into polls?

Both B6 and F9 planned to buy 737s. Wasn’t even like they intended to evaluate 737 vs A320. They had it in their business plan to order 737s.

Boeing badly blew each order. This was back in the dark days of Phil Condit and Harry Stoneciper.

Taking a slightly different take on the question, how about Lufthansa and the Fairchild-Dornier 728? Unlike the rest of the rest of the examples, that one didn't happen because Fairchild-Dornier went belly up before the plane could be certified.

TWA had an order for Caravelles but cancelled it. UA did take the Caravelle.

AS had the MD-90 on order, but cancelled it. AS also considered the 757.

Britannia came close to ordering the 767-400 but that fell apart when they were taken over by another tour charter company.

There are a few I remember from way in the past:
Aloha Airlines: Boeing 757-297 (3)
Hawaiian Airlines BAe 146 - mid 80's
Hawaiian Airlines was rumoured to pick up a 747 in the late 80's if it did, indeed, win one of the lucrative US-Japan routes from Hawaii
TWA got asked to pick up a number of white-tailed L-1011-500s sitting at Lockheed, but they couldn't get financing to make that deal happen.
Braniff: DC-10 and L-1011, got marketed to.

Recently:

American with the A350. That was a big deal

Delta and the 787. That would have looked so good.

I heard that BA was seriously considering the 748, and if RR engines were offered, they would likely be in the fleet today.

Not sure if it was an order or a MOU, but HP wanted 747-400's when they had the partnership with Ansett. The 742's were a complete disaster.

I never heard for sure why this never happened. Was the reason that US couldn't find the a/c in the market, fuel spike or some other reason?

Aeroflot actually operated both types.

I was on the Wikipedia (I know, I know) page of the Il96.
Came across this story.

Development on the M/T variant stalled when the US Export-Import Bank suspended talks on financing the engines and avionics, following pressure from Boeing. The dispute was later settled following an Aeroflot order for ten Boeing 737-400s—placed in April 1997 in a deal worth US$440 million— that were granted a tax exemption by the Russian government; nevertheless, the financing was blocked again when four Boeing 767-300ERs also ordered by Aeroflot were not included in the accorded exemption. The deal was never realised.

Hey guys,
I believe Iberia were very close to sealing a deal with Boeing for 777-300ERs but had a last mi ute change of plans to buy more A340-600s when Airbus offered them a great deal....
Here in Australia TAA in the 1970s wanted Tristars but but neither Ansett (who apparently wanted 757s and/or MD80s at that time) nor the government of the day were interested in such a big leap in domestic capacity.... TAA had also wanted Caravelles at one point in the 1960s but been denied. In the 1980s TAA had some kind of preliminary deal for A320s but famously ended up with 737-300s and then -400s....
Qantas and the 777? I could write a book....
Cheers,

I saw it in a training film one time. The airline i was working for shot a video on how to operate the doors on a 767. The video was shot on the delivery ramp outside the factory. The next plane over, which you could see clearly in the background, was in Western paint. Unfortunately the tape was at work so I don't have a copy. It was in Betamax format also....:)

Also TK was serious in considering the 748 - but it seems they decided the 773 was adequate.

Down here in SE Asia
SQ cancelling the MD-11 order and going for the A340-300
GA cancelling their 777-200 order in 1997/8 due to the Asian Financial Crisis
Also:
Air Siam(an airline that has been shut down by the Thai Gov in 1976) was trying to buy L-1011 aircraft at one point of time

Hey guys,
Add CAAC of China trying to buy VC-10s in the 60s/70s, even going so far as to suggest licence-building them in China.... Initial order was to be 5, I believe.
Add also Kendall Airlines planned order of two Saab 2000s, : I believe that they were officially 'optioned', before Kendall ordered CRJs under Ansett ownership instead.
Add also potential orders in negotiations for TriStar 500s for Qantas and Lufthansa, plus also Air India I have heard, when Lockheed announced the end of the L1011 production line...
Add lastly FlyBe and Air Bhutan orders for BAe RJXs when BAe cancelled the airliner's development.
Cheers,

Prinair was going to be the launch customer of the CASA-212 and one was painted halfway with their colors when our "flag carrier of Puerto Rico" collapsed...wonder if Prinair'd eventually gone jet and bought some MDs, 737s or A320s to enter the United States, Central American, north South American, southern Caribbean and/or Mexico markets...doubtful as American dominated and had the bucks to back their SJU operation against competition...but, for the sakes of going forward, etc..you never know, could have happened had they stayed in business that much longer...
