TSA Increasing Inspection of Powders

Wed Jun 20, 2018 4:46 pm

350ml is lot, but I wouldn't be surprised if they start scaling that back. No real significant at the 350ml level I'd say.

TSA officers will start asking passengers in the standard security lines to remove containers holding at least 350 milliliters of powder – roughly the size of a soda can – from their carry-on bags for additional screening. The rules are similar to those already in place for liquids and gels.

I think they do that already (when they are in the mood) according to a number of stories!

Actually, TSA has been doing this for years. I've had to remove large bottles on powdered cinnamon, granulated garlic, and stone cut oats from my luggage over the last 5 years. Knowing it's going to happen, I just remove the items from my bag and put them in the tub with my cell phone, keys et all.
Just did so last Friday.

I've had the same experience with packaged bread machine mix. Had it examined for years

Carry-on cinnamon, garlic, oats and bread making mix . . . transported on more than one occasion -- interesting, but odd ;)
