Next time we think that flying used to be so much better…

Tue Jun 19, 2018 11:11 pm

People often wax poetic about how “back in the day“ flying was incredible. Here is some vintage footage that corrects the Lore…

Haha! If I remember correctly, they were flying to Rockapulco.

On a serious note, while I don’t like bag fees or 30” pitch, I also don’t miss major airplane crashes every few weeks like in the good old days.

I'd take lie flats, PTVs, no smoking, staggeringly cheaper fares and non-stop flights over the "good old days" any day!

My first overseas trip was PLZ-JNB-MRU-TPE-HKG(overnight in HKG)-SYD-MEL in a smoke-filled cabin with main screen movies and it cost more the $8k in economy in current terms. Today I could I could fly PLZ-JNB-SYD-MEL/SIN-MEL or a multitude of two-stop itineraries for a fraction of the cost in economy or for still less than the price on a lie-flat, enjoying the entertainment of my choice in a cabin with clean air. I have no nostalgia for the past.

If it was today Fred could've taken Dino on board as an emotional support animal...
