My favorite airliner ever: Braniff 727-200....

Tue Jun 12, 2018 9:39 am

Not completely sure why, but these birds were just classy, awesome, cool!!
Having a reservation to fly on one, what a great anticipation to be early to the boarding gate to discover what COLOR of plane it would be! I recall the beautiful green ones, the orange ones, even the blue ones.
The 727-200 was majestic enough....but Braniff really added the STYLE. From the above-mentioned exterior colors, to the unique interior fabrics and upholstery, and also the flight attendants' outfits. Great stuff!

I never rode on a Braniff one, but the three holer has always been my favorite. I had the opportunity to fly on the ones that graced the skies for United, Piedmont, Eastern, Delta, Northwest, ATA, and TWA. Nothing like using up approx. 12K feet of runway in LAS on a hot August afternoon to go to DEN! Some of the departures from MDW on Northwest and ATA were fun as well.

The Calder 727 was pretty sweet, as was his DC-8.

My knowledge doesn't go back much beyond that. Were they the first "specials"?

AS bought a number of them so I was fortunate to work on the ex-Braniff 727's for many years! Beautiful leather interiors long before it became more common.

I pre-date you and preferred their "shorty" B727-100's(with the Girard interiors) ! but my 1st flight was on their BAC 111 which remains in my top five airliners I have ridden.

Roots Air actually flew an ex braniff 727 back in 2001. C-GOKF still had the braniff plate on the over head panel. was leased from Kelowna Flightcraft.

This is a great post, cause I agree wholeheartedly. These were great birds. Shame no current airlines have this variety. Frontier does a pretty cool job of it but it's a little different.

One of my first flights as a child was on a BN 727: LIT-MEM-DCA. Will never forget the interiors of the aircraft, the flight attendant uniforms, the logo cutlery, and that livery.

You have to love the 727.
Never seen one in flight conditions.
But I bet she's not as loud as Tu-154...

All of them, remember seeing them as a kid at Terminal 2W at DFW.

In the mid 1970's, I frequently flew Braniff 727 from SEA to PDX. (part of their SEA-PDX-DFW run). What a joy that was. Hey, do you know how much I would pay these days, to repeat that experience? I can only dream!!

Cool, thanks. As far as I can remember, I don't recall ever seeing a picture of a 727-227 in orange Flying Colors. Even the rego the used for it on that illustration leads to a red or dark orange aircraft.

As far as the "Persian Green" (should be Perseus Green) I don't know how Airliners Illustrated screwed that up...oh wait, yes, I do. Shoddy research, or mis-interpreting the word.
