And do they have additional airside security screenings before people are allowed to a gate for US departure like AMS does with DL?For the return, again, if it's one ticket then the OS-LH connection will see your bags checked through. Your VIE-FRA flight is intra-Schengen so you will only undergo security screening at VIE, then emigration control at FRA. It's best to assume that there will be another security check there as well but I don't know that personally.

XAM2175 wrote:The UK is not a member of the Schengen Area so you would only cross the UK border if you needed or wanted to enter the UK for your transit. However since you have a direct BA-BA connection your bags will be checked through (assuming it's all on the one ticket) and the LHR transfer buses are airside so you won't need to cross the border - just a security check when entering T5. The trains, on the other hand, are landside.
On arrival at VIE you will be entering the Schengen Area and so will pass through Immigration and Customs there.

That is actually an interesting question for me (slightly o/t but I'd be really interested if someone had any kind of insight on this):
I'll be flying LH/UA FRA-ZRH-EWR this summer. I assume LH is going to be able to check my luggage all the way through to EWR at FRA but what about that security interview/emigration control at ZRH? I know they have a separate midfield terminal for intercontinental flights so I assume all that will happen there.
I've been thinking that for my sector out of FRA I should be treated like a regular intra-Euro passenger, with the flight departing from the Schengen gates in concourse A.
Since my flight to ZRH leaves at 6:40am and I live an hour's drive from FRA I'd highly appreciate knowing that the extended security measure for the TATL will only take place once I'm connecting in Zürich because I'll have to get up early enough already without them

Security wise I don't know but you would think that the FRA screening is enough and you wouldn't have to do it again in ZRH.

On my HAM-LHR segment I went through transfer security airside along with the security interview for the flight to DFW, while on the DFW-LHR segment, I only went through transfer security and was free to roam T5A before my final flight to HAM. I don't know about ZRH but it is entirely possible that, even on a Schengen flight (which can be considered like a domestic flight), you'd have to go through transfer security, but someone who knows ZRH can explain that better. AMS, the only other Schengen airport outside of Germany I've flown from to connect to a non-Schengen flight, only has additional airside security checks when you go to the DL gates right after exit passport control.I can't say for sure but I imagine this is similar to my VIE-FRA-PHL where the FRA-ZRH portion of your flight is like a domestic US flight, as Switzerland is Schengen I believe.
