United website is down
Oh no! A big bad day for United - UA 1175 and with website. I am sure that their IT team is having a big headaches. What's going on with united.com?

It's just temporary. If it was hacked/broke, the banner wouldn't be there. Instead, you'd get a big "Page Not Available" on a white background. The reservations system is working fine. Actually just used it on the app 2 minutes ago. More than likely just doing some minor site maintenance in the middle of the night here in the US.

It has been down for several hours and earlier my browser would just time out when trying to bring it up.

A friend’s flight to IAH departed an hour ago, several minutes early. Appears operational impact (if any) is minor.

There was no operational impact. Their internal systems weren't down. It was just some website maintenance. Everything is working A-OK now. It probably cost them a few lost bookings to other airlines, but that's why they did it in the middle of the night, to try and minimize that.

To clarify, there was a small issue with the site, but they scheduled the outage for 10pm EST to fix it, according to an IT friend there. Oh and there is another brief scheduled outage at 1230am EST.
