There was a major incident on I-95 in South Florida this past week closing the interstate for 7 hours. This created incredible gridlock and total congestion on all local roads. Do the airlines allow for missed flights due to traffic accidents? What if someone is involved in an accident on the way too the airport and has the police report, do the airlines waive any fees or is it tough luck?? I'm bored and just wondering.

depends on the airline. If there's a major incident most FSCs will probably be lenient. my taxi was in a crash once going to LGA and my companion had to go to the hospital, United put me on a later flight without penalties, I called them with maybe an hour before scheduled departure, never asked for "documentation" and I'm not a high status frequent flyer with UA.

I once just missed an AA flight from Waco to Tampa through DFW. The agent just set me up on the next flight out of DFW, no change fee. Had to drive to DFW and pay for parking (It is free in Waco), but It was my mistake, so I was grateful.
