SFO sees a good amount of "Flight 1"-

UA 1 - SFO-SIN
SQ 1 - SFO-HKG-SIN
JL 1 - SFO-HND
VX 1 - SFO-DCA (now operated as AS 1001)

Which airport gets the most number of "Flight 1"? I would guess either LHR or JFK

Here's a list of all the flight 1s I could find operating in January (though I'll admit I removed some obscure operators). If the flight has multiple segments, they are broken out on to different lines (for example, there are two entries for QF1 below).

CX: 101 HKG-SYD (I don't think CX used any number below that)

Not Flight 1 or 101:
BR: 5 LAX-TPE (Their flight 1 used to run that route also). BR101 is 3/wk FUK-TPE, so nothing special about that at all.

Honorable mention: JL101 HND-ITM. They have a Flight 1 (SFO-HND, as stated in a few posts back), but 101 is used for their "flagship" domestic route between Tokyo and Osaka.

Not sure if this is the "lowest" number:
CZ: 300 JFK-CAN

No longer available, surely there should be an honourable mention for the daddy of them all....

******** Pan Am Clipper 1 JFK-JFK ********

(via SFO-HKG-BKK-DEL-THR-BEY-IST-FRA-LHR) :rotfl:

Also known as the "Terrorist Express" (....Istanbul, Beirut, Tehran, Delhi) , amazingly this service originated with Lockheed Constellations back in 1947, although personally I believe it had it's finest hour during the 70's with the advent of the 747.

There is some debate as to whether it always qualified as a true "around-the world" service because Pan Am did not fly from JFK to LAX/SFO before deregulation because no eastbound passengers could board in California, even if their destination was Europe or beyond, and no westbound passengers could board at JFK even if their destination was Tokyo.

"Clipper 2" did it the hard way, flying eastbound all the way against various prevailing winds.

Somewhat surprisingly (in this internet era) , I had difficulty nailing down the exact details other than this 13 year old thread.

While not a Flight 1, Lufthansa's FRA-JFK daytime flight has the lowest flight number for any intercontinental flight. The region also has the lowest 6 outbound flight numbers.

CX100 SYD-HKG

Cathay use 1-99 for cargo flights, so 100 is their first passenger flight number.

FDX1 STN-MEM
UPS1 HKG-CGN

Another poster referenced LH, but omitted to explain that unlike everybody else, they seem to favour even numbers for the outbound service, and odds for the return.
Hence..
LH1 does not exist
LH2 & LH3 are FRA-HAM & vice versa.
And instead of LH101...
LH100 & LH 101 are FRA-MUC & vice versa

And then there are these two, that are neither "1" nor "101", so they defy description. (and I'm not even 100% sure it's their lowest)

Umm...so I guess for MU, MU501 (PVG-HKG) is the lowest number? Funny how both CA (101, PEK-HKG) and MU (501, PVG-HKG) used their "lowest" number on their HKG flights :D

A few other:
South Korean LCCs:
LJ (Jin Air): Flight 1 is ICN->BKK. Although looks like it's seasonal.
7C (Jeju Air): 101 GMP->CJU
TW (T'way Air, NOT TWA): 101 ICN->BKK
ZE (Eastar Jet): 201 GMP->CJU

Japanese LCCs:
JW (Vanilla Air): 101 NRT->TPE
GK (Jetstar Japan): 11 NRT->TPE (100/101 is seasonal NRT<->CTS that leaves early in the morning)

There's also HX15/16 HKG-OOL-CNS-HKG being its "lowest" number flight. Their numbering are kind of arbitary, though.
For HU, I believe it's Flight 401 SYX->UTP? It's not even daily, though. Most of their flight number are 7xxx range (Domestic). For example, HU7001 is HAK->CAN, which make much more sense as HU is still "Hainan" Airline (Even though they pretty much operated everywhere :rotfl: )

Good call. I would think for Chinese airlines it’s hard to have same flight numbers amongst different carriers

I guess the rule extend to 4-digit flight number also? For example, MU5101 would be SHA->PEK, definitely their "flagship" domestic route. Same applied for CZ (3101, CAN->PEK). Then you got CA using 4xxx? (CA 4101 is CTU->PEK; but there's also CA1xxx, like 1831 PEK->SHA) :scratchchin: :scratchchin: . Random search I see CZ using 8xxx, 6xxx, and 3xxx; CA with 1xxx and 4xxx; MU with 5xxx and 2xxx. Then you got ZH (Shenzhen Airline) using 9xxx? (Not surprisingly, ZH9101 is...well, SZX-PEK)

In ZH's case, their lowest would be ZH9001, SZX-BKK. Try beating that :lol:

CA has 4xxx due to it taking over the old China Southwest Airlines which was assigned 4xxx.
