BA A380 Business Class - Really that bad?

Wed Jan 17, 2018 4:42 pm

My wife and I are travelling to Chicago to Sardinia in September and the 1 stop options with good routing and timing is limiting. We are between going through LHR on BA or ZRH on LX. My wife has flown business on LX and loves it. The return trip on LX unfortunately requires an overnight in ZRH which is not too objectionable but not ideal. The UA/LH options aren't that great and a lot more expensive. BA offers the best routing and connection times.

So here is the question? Is the BA A380 Business Class seat really that bad? I read some reviews and the privacy for the aisle seat privacy, seat widths, partition situation and general service seems to get poor reviews. After reading the reviews, we wonder if the BA Business Class fare is even worth it. Or would you recommend LX even with the overnight stay?

Side note, my wife is a loyal UA Platinum but was just given an AA Gold offer and is open to giving OneWorld a try to see how they compare.

Yes they are bad, unless you love lack of storage space, okay service, cramped seating. Sitting 2-4-2 on 747 and A380, and 2-3-2 on 787 and 777. Swiss has a 1-2-1 so does AA.

Swiss is good in J. And a romantic night in Zurich on top of that....

BA is not worth it. I always thought the service was reasonably good, but the seat is abysmal.

Go Swiss. LHR is an easy transit any time.

Another vote for Swiss, though honestly they don't impress me much, they are better than BA and let's be honest, a night in Zurich isn't exactly a hardship.

Swiss. No doubt about that. BA's service is really not worth the money.

Service wise LX is in general more attentive than BA. In terms of seat although BA J class seats are tight and narrow, since you will be travelling in a pair, one of the main downside of the seats (lack of direct aisle access) will become a smaller issue. LX wins overall looking at the service on its own. As a side note, in this situation I personally would actually choose BA as I would rather pick a same day connection over a 2-day connection to save time.
