Birds inside den terminal

Mon Jan 15, 2018 10:16 pm

Flew out of den & couldn't believe the number of small birds inside terminal. It wouldn't be hard to train a bird to carry something or use a small drone to fo same

I can't buy the terrorist angle. If I was a bird in Colorado in January, I'd love a warm place to perch with all those crumbs from Sbarro and The Bon Pain lying all over the floor to munch on.

Growing up, we would regularly travel through Amsterdam airport in the 1980's and 1990's and they always had small birds flying through that airport. I was always so amazed.

I worked in the Interim terminal in DCA for US Air back in the 90's and we frequently had small birds flying around. They were a welcome sight.

Yeah JFK and LGA are pretty bad. I don't mind it personally. I've found this to be the case at almost every airport with a large check-in hall. I've traveled through ICN, CTS, KIX, NRT, DUB, FRA all in the last year and they all had birds inside. Hell, my local Costco has birds in it.

We used to have birds flying inside He Halifax airport (YHZ). I enjoyed it. In some ways I found it relaxing.

While the birds can be somewhat nice inside at airplane terminal, there could be issues from their wastes hitting people or in food service areas with some health issues.

It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut. :duck:

Oh my gosh, dude.
Go hang out on some alarmist media site, like cnn or fox.
This site is for aviation enthusiasts, not people who liken birds in a terminal to immediate terrorism threats.

I've always wondered how they get inside the terminals?

I've seen them in Australian airports too, small birds that is! Like sparrows.

I think the main reason is the weather conditions outside, and airports having large open interior spaces with high ceilings, and constantly multiple opening doors, there are plenty of places they could hide - come and go, or even nest! I guess they could also come in through vents maybe.

The amount food crumbs lying around the concourse and food courts would be enough to sustain them IMHO.

Ok dude I hate the TSA too but what that is one of the most rediculous things I’ve ever read on this site.

Very interesting, never seen birds Stateside. Last year at FCO, there were a lot of pigeons walking and flying around Terminal C's satellite G gates. Due to the sheer number of them, it was a little gross.

Thankfully, passengers haven't figured out how to fly over security checkpoints yet. And once they do, the air travel industry will collapse and the TSA will be pointless anyway.

A few years ago I would have thought the OP was joking for sure. But with Anet as it is these days I'm not so sure this time..

I was in Mykonos a few weeks ago and there were cats inside the terminal airside. Interesting experience cuddling a cat while you are at the gate waiting for boarding.

I was to mention FCO.... indeed there are a lot of birds in the gates for extra-Schengen flights (where there is EK, CX, etc).

I saw birds in the terminal in MIA a few years ago waiting to board a charter to Cuba. I forget which letter the concourse was designated as, but it felt like a time warp back to the 1980s airside.

Well that would certainly take care of any birds that get into the terminal.

Sparrows were quite common in the old T2 at Heathrow, a good distraction over an eight hour shift.

The TSA deliberately keep the birds inside the terminal to reduce the possibility of bird strikes occurring at the airport.

It's a safety thing.
