Southwest serving Shreveport, Louisiana?

Sat Jan 06, 2018 2:46 pm

On this forum there is regular speculation about which cities Southwest might serve in the future. Fresno, California has been a regular favorite as to the next Southwest city but has Shreveport, LA drawn any consideration from those both inside and outside of Southwest? Perhaps flights to MCO, HOU, LAS, and even DAL would work for the Shreveport metro area and nearby towns/cities in East Texas, Arkansas and Southeastern Oklahoma. Of course this area is not the wealthiest part of the United States but with military, casino, manufacturing businesses and energy related firms in the area perhaps SW might make flights to and from SHV work.

I am not a route planner...just wanted to throw my thoughts about SHV and SW out there.

FAT hat almost triple the number of passengers last year, so I doubt WN will be at SHV any time soon.

I think FAT is the only new market left in the continental USA that has any chance of seeing WN service going forward.

Where would the fly aside from HOU? DAL is an easy drive, BNA is a small market, and MDW is long.

It’s also notable that WN failed at JAN, which has similar economic and geographic traits.

SHV has some merit and it has been discussed very much over the years. I believe the Shreveport Airport Authority is in touch annually with WN. There are just bigger fish to fry.
SHV is a "build it and they will come" market.. UA nor AA are interested in local traffic to their hubs - whatsoever - except when some 'fool' buys a SHV-IAH or SHV-DFW ticket at fairly outrageous pricing. UA and AA have the most to loose but would continue with their 4 to 7 flights a day and be fine. WN could definitely find its old model in SHV.

What makes most sense for WN and where the demand would be for SHV: 1 x MSY, 1x DAL, 2 x HOU, 1x LIT-MDW, and that would be complete overkill probably. Overlook DAL and they could do 1 x BNA-BWI? There is the military-Barksdale, casinos, Cyber Innovation Center and regional draw.

In the end ... I doubt it will happen in my lifetime. There are some vibrant smaller markets that WN would prefer to go before SHV.
