My most recent (hopefully not my last) was AA A330-243 N288AY on #635 CLT-PHX two weeks ago. I planned it so I'd get the A330. I flew the return flight #2020 PHX-CLT back on February 21, 2017 on my way to England for a few days...planned that one too.

24 May 2016 on QF's VH-EBS, an A332 on MEL-SYD, at the tail end of a long string of QF widebody flights that also included B763ERs and even a B744ER before I moved to the UK.

However if all goes to plan tomorrow I'll be back to change my answer to "19 Dec 2017 on LH's D-ABVx, a B744 on TXL-FRA" :D

And for bonus points, though not domestic per-se, my return to the UK from FRA will be on a BA B763ER.

I'm afraid not mate, six-abreast and one aisle; very definitely a narrowbody. Pretty much equivalent to the 757, in fact.

Nobody would take a train across the continent. I'd say 1000km is about the max before flying becomes the obvious choice.

But even in that case one of the main routes talked about here is MAD-BCN which is 600km and is very well connected by high speed rail.

I do not agree to that. Indeed one of the main routes talked about is Madrid-Barcelona but by far most air passengers on that route are connecting at either end of the line. People just going between the two cities mostly take the train, but if you're connecting things become different.

Also I know plenty of people who drive all the way across Europe, mostly on holidays. That's of course because on a plane the amount of luggage is restricted. When they drive across Europe they load their car full of luggage. I've done that myself several years ago when I went camping in Switzerland. I had my car loaded full with camping gear and drove all the way from the Netherlands to Switzerland and back. I could have done that in a day, but because I was not in a hurry (I was on holiday) I took my time and did it in a day and a half. Can't take camping gear with you on a plane, and the campsite was in the middle of the mountains far away from any airport so flying would hardly save any time.

Less than a week ago on a VN A350 (my first A350 flight.... I know, I am late...) with a white radome from Hanoi to Saigon. I have no clue why they use the A350 for such a short flight...

My second flight at all was from Frankfurt to Hamburg on a LH A300 in the middle of the 80ies.

Mine would be around late 2013 (I don't remember the exact date) on UA 788 between ORD and IAH, this was back when UA first got their 787s.

Before that is a CO 764ER around 2007 on EWR->IAH. Even before that would be LAX->IAH on CO DC10 way back around 1999.

Not "domestic", but flew on CI 744 between HKG and TPE a few times, and CA 744 between HKG and PEK. The good ol' day where every other flights from HKG is on a 747 :rotfl:

High demand. VN fly 359s and 787s on that route regularly. :scratchchin:

Yes, I had their 787s on the same route before. And yes, the demand is huge... but still, using an A350 for 2-hours-flights? Hmmm, I thought it might be for training or repositioning...

It might be a 2 hours flight, but how long does it take to drive between the two airports? According to Distance Calculator, it's 32 hours by car. Compare that to Amsterdam - Barcelona. Similar distance (1161 km vs 1242 km), but according to Distance Calculator that can be driven in 14 and a half hours. That makes a huge difference.

Train is a similar story. There is a train connection between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city, but it's far from a high speed train. The journey takes about 34 hours. Amsterdam to Barcelona by train can be done as fast as 11 and a half hours, you depart Amsterdam in the morning and arrive in Barcelona in the evening. So eventhough the distance between those cities is basically the same, in terms of transportation they're much closer to each other.

I too was on the 787-8 ORD-LAX flight. It was a treat.

I was surprised at how full it was -- 100% of the seats had butts in them on a random Wednesday evening.

I think my last domestic ride was on TG's B747-400 from HKT to BKK. Finally, after the previous booked flights received a last-minute a/c downgrade... :cry2:

Unfortunately, TG decided to cut the experience on domestic runs to a bare minimum - so the PTV and IFE was switched off, no pre seat selection etc.!

23 August 2015, SEA-MSP on a Delta B763. Was not an -ER and did not have winglets. The plane has since been retired as of March 2016. We had PTVs although the touchscreens weren't very responsive and there wasn't much I could do with them. (My earlier MSP-SEA on a B739ER had the same IFE offerings but the screen was larger and much more responsive to touch.)

Back in the mid 2000s was my last one - AA A300 SJU-JFK
Interestingly enough I had flown a brand new DL 738 down and was in this old rattly A300 on the way back, but I much preferred the return flight.

I travel the Perth to Sydney route about 2 to 3 times a year and a consequence of this is me racking up a fair amount of A330 flights. As of today my most recent domestic A330 route was SYD-PER on VH-EBO in July.

This was back in 1998. Layover from ATL via DTW, to SAN. The aircraft was an MD-11 from DTW to SAN. I remember passengers asking: "Am I at the right gate?" They were not used to flying an aircraft that large on such a relatively short 48-state continental flight. Must've been a last-minute equipment change, as the flight was light on passengers.

2006! DUB - SNN in a Skyservice A333. And the year before in Air Transat A310. Such an archaic arrangement, that SNN stopover.

There are still options in the US, not as abundant as they were 10 plus years ago but I'll always try to book one as a novelty if it suits my travel times and isn't ridiculously more expensive. I just took a trip to LA this past weekend and would have preferred to connect in JFK to catch deltas a330 to LAX but due to work I settled for a boring but fine aa 737 nonstop BOS-LAX. I also go to ORD a few times a year, while I could connect in EWR for a widebody on UA I usually don't hassle and just take the quick hop on a 753 - novelty enough. Most recently I did:

May 2017, UA 777 BOS-SFO
Dec 2016, UA 777 BOS-SFO
Dec 2016, DL 764 SAN-ATL
Aug 2016, DL 763ER ATL-SEA
Dec 2015, DL 763 MSP-LAX

..... I'm totally blanking out on prior travel dates but in recent years I've also done Delta's 777 ATL-LAX and AA (still in US colors at the time) a330 BOS-CLT. ORD-LAX on an AA 767 as well.

I'm only 26 but I miss when I was a kid the norm being BOS-MSP on NWA dc10s and BOS-ATL was full of DL 767s, even BOS-CVG. BOS-LAX and SFO on AA and UA were all 767-200s. In the early 00's almost any major city in the US had a DL 767 to ATL.

I used to visit my aunt in DEN all the time. Once she sent me to my grandfather in NJ and I caught a UA 777 DEN-EWR when I was a kid, the flight continued from EWR to LHR. Another fond memory I have is booking BOS-ORD-DEN to catch a UA 777 ORD-DEN and enjoying a last minute equipment swap to a 744. The only 744 I've ever been on.

Does 767 count as widebody? January of 2012, SFO-ATL on DL.

Do trips to Hawaii and back to mainland count? 1996 SFO-HNL DC-10.

Of course it does! For US travel, I specified Continental US (Lower 48) only.

EI DUB-SNN in 2006 on an A330. Thru-flight ORD-DUB-SNN. Didn't get off the plane in DUB, cleared customs in SNN. IIRC some local pax boarded in DUB, not sure how they separated people domestic vs international arrivals.

Coming up on two years ago. ATL-LAX on a DL A333 in February 2016.
Tentatively planning on another ATL-LAX leg in March which would be on a DL 764.

I've already answered but I can add my first 767 ride was also my shortest widebody flight: 28 July 1987 Delta 767-300 N121DE from San Diego to Ontario...it was a tag (add-on) on the SAN-ONT-ATL. 24 minutes for the 95 statute-mile (published distance) flight.

My last domestic US widebody flight was December 23rd, CLT-PHL on an AA 330-200. I had arrived on an AA A330-300 from PHX, so I experienced back-to-back A330s on a domestic routing. As it was my first ride on a -300 variant, and an older airframe at that (starting life as a Darth Vader with USAirways), I enjoyed the historical significance.

Flying back nonstop PHL-SFO on an A330-200. Not sure if this widebody activity was a normal course of events, or merely holiday scheduling. The -300 out of PHX may be seasonal as well.

I've been wracking my brain and I'm pretty sure the last domestic widebody I flew on was EWR-LAX on...People Express. I think this is a side effect of all of my long-haul domestic flights originating or terminating at PHX over the past 20 years or so.

Just recent memory

Dec 2017 - ATL-SLC DL A333 a up upgrade to comfort+, wonderful ride.
Summer 2016 - ATL-MSP DL 763 (non-ER)

Not to easy to find domestic widebody much anymore, looks like ATL-SLC is going to be my quarterly opportunity.

January 2014: US 767-200ER CLT to MCO
January 2015: US A330-300 PHL to MCO
