I know, and I deliberately chose 3A when I booked. First, it's up front, and chances are the aircraft may get switched to a 737, as I see those operating at least CM 192 on the return leg. Even so, I always wanted to know the perks of travelling up front, and the offer CM made was too good to pass on it.

It was my first time flying in a Pilatus. I would highly recommend it - extremely comfortable ride.

When I lived in the US, I tried to avoid NK, but there were times I could not. One time was a flight ORD-FLL to take me to a cruise out of Miami on the next day, On the day I was to leave, Chicago got hit with a massive snow storm and everybody and their brother cancelled flights out of ORD, except for NK. We were delayed 5 or 6 hours as they thought they could get us out. Which they did. I got into FLL at 4am and had only a few hours of sleep as boarding was around noon. For that one time only I was grateful for NK.

Over the long 4 day Easter weekend I flew into Adelaide. Nice airport for a medium-sized city and was also my first chance to see an ugly A359 in person. Also on 31-MAR I took a tour to Kangaroo Island, was a ferry over and I opted for a return flight. The airport at KGC was so small, from the time I walked into the terminal and to the REX counter, it was about 45 seconds later that I was at the gate. Also the gate to gate time was 23 minutes, probably my shortest commercial flight ever. I do not have a flight booked for July and I am getting the itch to book something. I am thinking Cairns.

I am draft planning at this stage a trip to Adelaide for three nights in 2019 as I’ve never been. I really want to fly direct from CBR return and not via MEL but the times are not really great, as in very early or evening from CBR on the outbound. Mainly QF here but I would consider VA if the times were more suited.

Cairns sounds good for July. Not speaking from experience, as I’ve yet to go that far north, but winter weather wise a great option.

For the CBR visit I would suggest a visit to the National Arboretum if you haven’t been, and a walk up Mount Ainslie from the Australian War Memorial is good too, versus the drive up.

I really liked Adelaide. It was a bit quieter than Sydney, which was nice as it gave me a chance to do a mini-recharge over the Easter weekend holiday. If you go there, there are some great little restaurants and pubs off of Rundle Street (I stayed at a hotel near there called the Majestic Roof Garden Hotel in that area which was good too). The hotel and that area was near the light rail which was a short ride to Glenelg which was a fun place, kind of reminded me of Manly, near Sydney.

I am on the fence of Cairns. I am also thinking about buying a new gaming laptop. I really want to migrate to using the Prepar3D flight simulator from Lockheed but am not sure my current laptop (2 years old) will run it. And the laptop I am looking at will set me back a few dollars.

I was in Canberra a few years ago and went to the Australian War Memorial. That was a great place, so much history there and that was right up my alley. I actually carry my grandfather's dogtag with me that he wore in WW2 when he was part of the US forces in France. So in a way, I took him as well on a tour of the War Memorial. My hotel was somewhat near the memorial and one afternoon I was chilling out on the bed, had my balcony door open letting in the cool fresh air and all of a sudden the hotel shook and I about fell off the bed when a F-18 flew over the hotel and to the War Memorial for their Last Post Ceremony fly over.

Thanks for that re Adelaide. I was thinking the Intercontinental as a stay and doing the Botanic Gardens, Adelaide Zoo, and a tour of the Adelaide Oval for some ideas. The beach is definitely a must too though. The War Memorial in Canberra is very good and has had a lot of money invested in it in recent years and is looking better than ever. I was there recently for another look. Yes, the military flyovers are something else, and we’ll have another one soon with ANZAC Day coming up in a few weeks. My grandfather was in WW2 in the RAAF. The medals are in the family, but I’ve never seen them.

On another general note, the CBR Open Day is on this weekend!! It is already fully booked! They needed to ticket the event this time around and change the organisation to better manage it, as it’s so popular. Looking forward to it, this will be my third time.
