My flight Friday night after work was delayed due to weather, so I spent more time in the airport then it did to actually fly to Canberra. Even though it was a B712, we didn't climb very high and about 90% of the flight was in the rain. My return flight yesterday was originally scheduled on a DH8C, but was actually on a DH8D.

Just returned from the Reunion trip.
Had a few domestic trips thrown in between again.
Luckily got the SA Express flights earlier, as they're grounded now, it was mainly to log CR2.
Airlink flights for August have now changed to ERJ-140, which will be new for me...also seeing KQ operating 737-700 a few times on the new nonstop NBO-CPT since it launched a few weeks ago...so maybe that will also happen with my flight...as I've never had 737-700 yet...however not sure which is the best (or best of the worst) for a 5hour flight, KQ -700 or -800...

I normally fly from MAN but for this trip the flights from EDI where 33% cheaper for my dates which coincide with Half Term for schools in England, not Scotland!!!.... Both airports are about the same distance way from where I live so choosing EDI was a no brainer!!!

Work has been stressful and despite the number of flights that I have taken, I have not really been away from work too much this year. So far 1/2 way through the year I have only had two days off of work. All of my AU domestic flights have been on weekends or public holidays. I do have time off in August for my birthday trip to Perth, but I am not sure I could manage to wait until then without snapping and going mental. So I took a few days off of work at the end of June. I wanted to go up north to Cairns. But after getting my leave approved by my manager, I then looked at flights and there was nothing out of Sydney or even connecting via Melbourne or Brisbane to Cairns that was either cheap or not a complete day trip due to gaps in connecting flights. The reason why all the good flights were booked was because there is a school holiday on my time off. So, I looked around for other places to go to and finally settled to take a short trip up to Port Macquarie, a relaxing beachside town.

Nothing new booked, but yesterday I got an email from Qantas for a booking change as a result of some realignment of aircraft. My PER-SYD flight in August was changed from the A332 to a B744. Quickly upon reading that email, I logged into my Qantas account and selected my business class seat from the main floor to the upper deck.

It did make my day when I read the email and saw the details of the change. As I never saw myself getting a B744 flight again, as I do not go through LAX anymore when I return stateside for the holidays, I hate that airport so much. It is now into DFW with the A388, and DFW offers better connections to my parents, either to my dad in southern Indiana or my mom in southwestern Florida. Single flights out of DFW for either, Going into LAX or SFO would be two flights. So one possible last B744 for the memories is great.

Last weekend I was down in cool and rainy Hobart and had some great flights on the QF 712's (but was disappointed that I did not get the Tassie special scheme, especially on a flight into Tasmania). I love the power of this plane and is pretty comfortable. And HBA airport is pretty cool to watch aircraft, giant glass windows giving a great view of the ramp. No jetbridges or push back tugs. Was fun watching the VA B738s power up and turn out to the active. My return flight I got upgraded to business after QF accepted my upgrade bid. I submitted the lowest possible bid and thought it wasn't going to be accepted. But Saturday afternoon I got an email advising it was accepted. And sitting up there, further away from the engines, it was a quiet ride. Winds in SYD were strong, so traffic was routed to Rwy 25 which lead for an interesting approach out over the ocean and then past The Gap (the entrance into Sydney Harbour) and Bondi Beach. Also got to see the leased B772 that NZ has from SQ. The SQ tail logo and lettering have been stripped, just the SQ colours but is wearing a New Zealand registration. Looked kind of weird, guess NZ is doing what they can while their B789s are going through the engine issues.

Well I added MIA-NAS-FLL to the list above on Bahamasair 737-500. Also in September will be doing FLL-ORH-FLL. First time into ORH. And on the B6 ERJ-190 which is one of my favorite aircrafts to fly on. Hopefully a few more to add later in the year.

Living 1/2 way around the world from my family, I have to plan well in advance for the holidays, and yesterday I booked part of my trip back to the US for Christmas/New Years. I absolutely hate (I cannot stress that word enough, hate) LAX, but....I am going through LAX,at least on the inbound flight. Outbound flight back to SYD is via DFW. I was close to going through LAX again on the QF 789 to BNE and then a domestic flight from there to SYD, but I didn't like the flight times on offer. And these Christmas flights will cement my QF silver status for the following year. I've only flown American Airlines flights so far this year and the A321 flight was my first time on an A321 and I was very astonished on their sophisticated seat-back in-flight entertainment! The flight to ABQ from DFW will be my very first MD-80 flight and I have wanted to fly on it for a while! The American MD-80 fleet has been a backbone for American Airlines in better days and I find it sad to believe that the fleet would be phased out in about one year; can't wait to experience the American MD-80 flight before the MD-80 fleet's eventual demise from AA!

Well never loose the hope completely. LA fleet is really a lottery with all this RR mess. A few weeks ago I booked a flight SCL - MVD and I got a 789, when that route is served by A320 99% of the times, and by the older 320’s of the fleet.
Even more, I won a Bussines upgrade and flew on the Bussines cabin of the LA 789 for the first time.
On the other hand, I have a flight SCL- AKL for September and everything is pointing to a change from my original 789 to a 17 years old leased 777 which should be covering that route in the foreseeable future....in other words, you never know what LA will use for your next flight until you’re seated on it !!
