Re: Changes to BA Frequent Flier Programme?

Not really surprising, with the way loyalty programs have been going this was the next logical step. My only hope is that more reward seats are opened up.

As it stands now, I have no loyalty to any airline (Though the majority of my flights are on DL/B6/WN) but the reality is, airlines devalued their own product so much, then made rewards so much harder to get, then started throwing on fuel surcharges and fees, the days off Joe Smith saving up his miles so he could get an upgrade once in a while are disappearing.

Personally I just fly with the cheapest airline I can find from A to B in Europe and as direct as possible within reason. I don't think loyalty gets you many perks anymore, unless you really spend a lot of time/money flying. Even many business class lounges have nothing to offer anymore, and some airports are even introducing public use showers, further negating the need for a business class lounge!

I just booked a reward flight with BA's OneWorld partner, Malaysia Airlines's KUL to ICN return for 25000 BA avios points plus £35.00, which I thought was really a good bargain. I hope this bargain would not disappear when any changes implemented. One thing I like about BA executive is that, I can book reward flight with BA's partner on BA website, usually for a small fee.

I'm beginning to feel the same after SriLankan Airlines revised their mileage accrual last September. To add insult to injury, UL never bothered to alert their members of the change until after the implementation. I value their elite status because it allows me to be seated in AA's Main Cabin Extra on HKG-DFW-HKG plus Lounge Access and that makes a world of difference after a very long flight!

I only keep my two Loyalty Cards (Oneworld/BA and Skyservice/Flying Blue) because it does helps when you have issues on your flight to show that you are a frequent flyer and ease of a more compromising solution.
I still get a lot of free flights/upgrading spending my mileage on the BA scheme (I fly a lot to GRU and DOH (which is now basically only served by QR - a ONE WORLD partner) but see that this will reduce dramatically.
Would this make me more prone to, for example, take a EK/Flydubai when going to DOH when the blockade ends? Or using maybe Norwegian when they start flying to Brazil? Nope. I would already consider them now since BA's actual Moto of "Paying more for less" has already done the damage a whole ago and now with AF following suit, cheapest A to B for me for certain!

As a BA frequent flyer this is potentially good news: My ability to get additional reward seats opened up "For a redemption premium" suits those of us with miles to burn!! Especially on much sought after F Class LHR/SYD where getting redemptions for a party of 3 or more is notoriously hard under the current regime.

I've never been a big fan of the Avios scheme even though because of my home town I fly BA more than anyone else and collect the wretched points. However this change to earn points according to how much you spend seems logical and consistent with loyalty schemes in other retail environments.

If I get loyalty points from a supermarket or a restaurant for example they are calculated on how much I spend not on say the number of items purchased or volume of food consumed. So why not apply same logic to buying flight tickets.
