Many airports (MAN, DUS, MUC) have the automatic passport reader where you have to hold your passport flat down against the scanner. However at BRU they have the type where you slide your passport in so far and the in gets sucked in further whether you are ready or not! Yesterday afternoon at BRU my passport was damaged. The page with all my details on is now partially ripped out of the centre binding. Also I have a tear along a crease above my picture (the crease was the result of a previous encounter with the same passport reader). I guess the chances of BRU paying for my new passport are basically zero! Has anyboby else been similarly affected?
I now need a new passport in 3 days which will cost me time of work and also plenty of money!

Use it at AMS multiple times a week, never had any issues. I would go to the airport authorities and try to explain what happened, see if you are entitled to some sort of compensation.
