Retro liveries by A/C type

Sat Oct 07, 2017 11:02 am

Current A/C types that have retro liveries:

737
747
767
777
A320
A330

Current A/C types that do not have retro liveries:

757
787
A340
A350
A380

Are there any 757 or A340 retros out there?

I don't know if there has ever been a retro A340. The days are numbered for them, so who knows if that will ever happen.

BA had a short lived retro 757 right before they retired the type. It was in the late 70s livery which was the pre-cursor to the famous Landor scheme. I seem to recall that when UA let employees vote on a retro jet in 2010(?) all the renderings were on a 757, but they switched to an A320.

BA could make good use of an A380 with a retro scheme. The Landor scheme would be stunning on the whale. Since LH has the retro 748, and Air France has merely modified their scheme, I think BA is the best candidate for such. Qantas could do it too, but they have the two "Retro-Roo" 738s.

Time will tell with the 787 and the 350. I would not be surprised if it happens someday.

SAS said their first or second A350 would be in the same as the retro A319. Hopefully it will still happen!

Even though there are currently none, both MX and AA have had retrojets on 757s.

AV did as well in the early 2000s.

The opposite of a retrojet:

Mostly we see a modern aircraft in an old livery. Icelandair turned this around and put an old aircraft in a modern livery. In my opinion, that's actually much cooler than a retrojet.
