Should I book a flight on PK for the nostalgia?

Mon Oct 02, 2017 5:57 pm

I've been long fascinated by PK's only remaining nonstop flight to Pakistan from the United States, which is a JFK-LHE service that flies in the air from New York to Lahore for 13hr45mins.

But here's the problems I have with this flight:

- It doesn't go to KHI
- Much more convenient to just go to ORD for me, cause I don't live in New York but rather Chicagoland.
- PK doesn't have any partners that can take me to JFK from ORD.
- Service is so bad it makes the US carriers look good

I've figured out solutions for this but I want to ask you, should I try to make this trip happen simply for nostalgia? (I used to fly PK alot when I was a youngling on ORD-MAN-KHI)

My route would have to be:

ORD-JFK (AA)
JFK-LHE-KHI (PK)
KHI-AUH-ORD (EY)

Should I do this? Yes or no? Leave your votes.

Better not, it's not worth it.

I flew PK a few years ago on their AMS-IST 5th freedom segment. The cabin wasn't up to par by any means, but the service wasn't bad at all. The food was very decent and the crew was friendly! Just don't expect to depart on time..

Why does it matter about the flight not going to KHI? Just curious.

You shouldn't ask for others to vote to decide for you but really make your own mind up. Either you want to go or you don't. Sounds like you're not really that keen if your finding reasons not to do it.

Ultimately you must make that call. Its your money and your dream. But don't regret it later if you decide not to.

Thanks I’ll keep that advice in mind

Why not fly ORD TO PEK TO KHI on Air China/UA.

Because his goal is to fly on PK, not to fly to KHI.

only issue I see is maybe, AA won't tag you bags straight to PK. You might have to pick up your bags at JFK recheck them in. Do the same when returning from PK. Which means you will have to pay maybe $70 for both bags on AA or DL, plus the hassle to recheck them etc

Yea, but most people going back home usually check in bags.... I mean, I am just trying to help the mate out... It could be an convenience issue. He going to Pakistan, not Denver guys...

If it's for the route alone, it is a tough call if you have cities on both ends that are not your starting point nor your destination.
If it's for flying PIA, maybe another long haul or medium haul flight might do the trick? It seems PIA flies to Toronto, Manchester, London, all of which should have decent connections to Chicago.

Maybe you could book one way on PK and a little better airline the other way? My in-laws are Pakistani and they avoid PK at all costs. Kind of sad if you ask me, but they've flown them a lot in the past and want nothing to do with them. With such amazing products on QR, EY, EK, and even TK, I'd probably lean towards the nicer experience unless you're bored with those guys and just want a different experience
