AirAsia Malaysia vs Indonesia: Safety

Looking to book an AirAsia (Malaysia) ticket from KUL to HKG.

I noticed AirAsia Malaysia has a 5/7 safety rating, while AirAsia Indonesia (had accident over Java Sea few years back) has a 2/7.

I know AirAsia Indonesia is a subsidiary of AirAisa Malaysia and they are separate entities. When it comes to safety, do they follow different procedures/standards (Malaysian vs Indonesian standards, etc)? What is the overall safety of AirAsia Malaysia, and any concerns booking it?

They will (or should) have the same safety rating. They fly the same aircraft. They are safe, as are pretty much all airlines now. Sometimes after an accident some biased sources say an airline is not safe. After MH370,MH17 everyone and some sites said MH was unsafe and this isn't the case. I would not have any concerns.

Yes. AirAsia Malaysia (AK/AXM) is safe - they operate some of their newest aircraft (A320 Neo) on the KUL-HKG route.

Indonesia AirAsia is not on the list of airlines that are banned by the European Union. So, it's safe to say that this airline is conform to European Union safety standards.
