I've had the good fortune over the last few weeks to get onto quite a few aircraft from both big OEMs.
EK 777, EK A380, MK/MAU A340, SA & EI A320, BA B747 and FR B737.
I consider myself very luck to have got onto both endangered species (A340 & B747) before they become largely extinct from our skies.
Whats my conclusion? Apart from the in-flight serving carts blocking all movement on the single aisles slightly worse on the B737 due to the narrower cabin, the real difference is all about the seats. Or rather, what is in the seat backs.
The best was the Emirates 777-300ER, because it had power sockets (USB and plug), wifi and the most recent IFE. Next up was the A380, with a more dated IFE, and no power sockets. Then the A340 and the B747 with a very dated cabin product.
The single aisles were much of a muchness. If the legacies wanted to put a real differentiator between them and the likes of Ryanair, then getting onboard wifi and power to each seat is an absolute must. No need for IFE, let passengers use their own tablets and phones.
