Which Airport - The Most Airlines?

Sat Aug 19, 2017 9:52 am

Evening All

First time poster after years of hanging about.

Which airport would host the largest number of airlines (presumably on their own metal)?

The Mighty Row (Heathrow/LHR) would have to be up there, as would one of the other big European airports such as CDG and FRA. How about JFK?

What do you think?

Cheers
Josh

Go to Wikipedia and start counting.

So far I found Amsterdam to have the most airlines. If I counted correct the airport is served by no less than 93 airlines.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'd be surprised if LAX had more airlines than JFK. HKG would have alot for sure. I didn't think of AMS but it makes sense.

LHR for sure. On the US side, JFK and LAX.

Certainly not Heathrow since Amsterdam has more. Heathrow is served by 86 airlines, Amsterdam by 93.

Counted 86 for HKG on Wikipedia. I excluded Charter Airlines, though (i.e. Citilink and Lion Air), and there's RS (Air Seoul) and K6 (Cambodia Angkor Air) which flights haven't started yet.

I believe LAX is around 70. Maybe 1 or 2 more but in comparison, it's way down there :p

Perhaps MIA since so many Caribbean and SA carriers?

That's what I was thinking too, but I just counted 72 on Wikipedia.

I got 101 at Frankfurt.

Certainly LHR not. LHR is not low-cost friendly or regional aircraft friendly. That means there are plenty of European carriers (Ryanair, easyJet, Wizzair, Transavia, Norwegian, etc) that do not fly there.

I'd go for FRA or AMS...
AMS has 119 according to Wiki including cargo cariers.. even if you excluded regional parts of a airline you still get to 100+

There's BKK also.

I counted 95 + 6 airlines with Charter Operation only for 101 (passenger) airlines. Not totally surprising with all those random LCCs in SE Asia (Although some use DMK instead), tons of European carrier, pretty much all East Asian carriers, etc.

Thanks for the replies guys. So it could be CDG. Sounds like it would be hard to beat.
