AA's A319 Legroom?

Tue Aug 08, 2017 10:32 pm

I've heard bad things about AA's A319 economy legroom. I'm booked on STL-MIA-GCM-MIA-GCM in December and 3 out of 4 flights are on the A319. This probably belongs in Polls and Preferences but I put it Civ-Av because I'm not asking for either, but rather any experiences anyone has on this aircraft in AA's configuration.

I'm 5'11'' 200 lbs and have a 32" inseam on my pants. The flights aren't really that long but am looking for any insight.

Thanks guys and gals!

Its a little tight. 30inch seat pitch. Although at 5'11", you should fit ok (albeit not with tons of room)

The nice thing about the aircraft is each seat has IFE, so you can easily kill time there.

Including the LUS A319s? or are those all gone?

I've only been upfront on the AA/(L)US A319s, so I can't speak about what its like in back. I did like the smaller F cabin.

Can you try to purchase a Main Cabin Extra seat?

Not all A319s have IFE, only about 32 have it.

The tickets are bought and paid for but I might upgrade on the longer legs (STL-MIA-STL). Thanks USX!

Just the LAA ones.

I do not believe the LUS ones operate ex-MIA. Given he is going through MIA, I figured it would be a LAA 319 with IFE.

Even though they lack PTV's, the LUS A319's have more room than the LAA A319's. Unfortunately the LUS A319's are also used on shorter routes than the LAA A319's.

I don't know about STL, but I did see LUS 319s doing SAN-MIA this week. It's hard to tell anymore.

I'm not a fan but I've only been on one. I don't like the plastic seat compartment in the seat in front and to me one inch less is pretty noticeable as so is one inch more you get on say a Old US Airways A321. Feels too LLC too me.

The product AA has in the A319 is exactly why I find myself picking B6 over AA more often than not when I can help it.

But for shorter flights it's doable, but IMO opinion I'll rather be on any other plane in AA's fleet including regional.

I took an LAA A319, and it was the worst flight of my life. I'm a big guy (6'3", 190 pounds), and I was miserable.

The biggest problem with the LAA A319s is that the IFE boxes are under the window seats. If you're in a window seat (and 99.9% of ANet members prefer window seats!), you will have minimal leg room, and only a very small carry on will fit under the seat, because of the IFE box.

I would definitely upgrade to Main Cabin Extra for these reasons.

I'm 5'11" as well and did OK with the LAA 319 even in the last row. Perils of non-rev, but seat did recline a bit and legroom was fine.
I was in the window seat w/the IFE box but had only a small portfolio type bag that I actually leaned up against the sidewall.
On a LUS 319 I got a MCE seat and the pitch difference was very noticeable. I would consider the purchase of MCE for your longest segments,
but it can be pricey. I haven't figured out why AA charges different fee amounts when flying the same roundtrip segments.
Overall it is a nice, clean sharp looking interior on both fleet types. You'll only be able to note ship #'s at the airport to figure out if you'll
be on a LAA or LUS airplane so too late to look for last minute seat changes.
I think you'll be fine, but do note the IFE box at windows if you are thinking of carrying a backpack type item to shove under the seat.
