A big hello to all, new user (and amateur aviation lover) here. I'd love to know what you guys think are the 5 greatest engineering feats of the Boeing 747. What were the breakthroughs that set it apart?
The high-bypass turbofan was cutting edge technology at the time.
Not so much engineering but the fact that it made ULDs mandatory for handling big jets. Prior to this most other jets had to load the bags/cargo piece by piece. There was some attempts to use bins or pods but the 747 made it mandatory.
Sorry that's all I can think of! All other stuff was pretty much what was already in use but just scaled up. bug
