Specific A/C types at an airline that only serve one destination?

Mon Jul 17, 2017 9:19 pm

Was wondering about this after seeing the A318 at LCY, any other examples out there?

9V (Avior Airlines) only runs their A343s on BLA (Barcelona, Venezuela) -MIA.
However they will start using them to LIM as well by the end of this month.

TG has B734s for just one route, IINM. JU has an A332 leased from 9W just to fly to JFK.

It's flying some flights to the Canary Islands for the Dutch airline TUI this summer, but before that; Surinam Airways' single A340-300 PZ-TCR is only flown between Paramaribo and Amsterdam.
The result was the aircraft was more on the ground (mostly at Amsterdam) than in the air.

The same wih their previous A340-300 (PZ-TCP) and before that; their 747-300 (PZ-TCM)

Surinam Airways is operating PBM-AMS with a 787-8 obtained from TUI Airlines.

Going back to the late 1970s, PSA and Air California each had a fleet of Electras just for TVL.

For their last few years, the only long-haul destination for CX’s A340s was AKL; likewise for QF’s 767s and HNL.

That is incorrect. This is just a codeshare agreement, but the flight is operated by TUI.

CSA's sole A330 only flies to Seoul (pun intended)

When CX's A346 came in, it was used for just the JFK-HKG route pair for a short period.

Air Serbia has a single A332 (YU-ARA) which only flies BEG-JFK on JU500/501.

Way back when.....

Didn't Braniff operate the Big Orange 747 solely DFW - HNL for a while?

IIRC, after they retired their last "regular" 707, Western leased one for a time to fly DEN - LHR.

...although Air California occasionally flew them from SFO to MRY during that time. But you're correct, the only reason they had them was for TVL flights. This was long after they had flown Electras when they were in the fleets of many airlines.

I think LATAM Argentina's 767s only fly to Miami.

It wasn't that long maybe, it may have been 1 year but possibly shorter than that for the CX A340.

NZ 744's only regular long haul route for the last 2.5/3 years was SFO, they did do short haul to a few destinations still some more regular than others.

SQ leased a 744 off MH to operate to AKL for about 11 months before they had enough 77W's to cover AKL, it flew daily bar when maintanence was required or it was heavily delayed they would swap it out, I don't believe this aircraft 9V-SPR ever flew anywhere else, they painted it in the star alliance colours.

MH only regularly scheduled long haul A380 route is LHR.

Also serves several remote Scottish airports, not just Barra.

I think Varig retained their Electras just to fly the Sao Paulo - Rio route, until the authority finally allowed 2-engine planes to fly into the two city airports in the 1990s.

The A346 was brought in for JFK, but I think CX also deploys them regularly on short routes like TPE during the time between their daily JFK rotations.

There is a distinction between an airline having a type exclusively for a specific route or destination vs. the fleet shrinking down to the point that the type flies to only one destination. For the latter, various 744 fleets, for example, fall into that category, although that wasn't the original intent. I took the OPs thread to mean the first scenario.
