Create Your Ideal Aircraft

Wed Jul 12, 2017 7:24 am

As the title states, describe your ideal aircraft, imagine you're at the board at Airbus or Boeing (or your own company) and you alone get to design an aeroplane. How many pax would it carry? What sort of range would it have? Would it be a quad-jet or mono-jet? What airlines would fly it? Would it have any unique features?

if I was that intelligent, I would be sitting at A or B designing the ideal aircraft, and not wasting my time here!!

All right, this would be my suggestion:

Two engines, about 200 seats, narrow-body. Big overhead bins, allowing a hand luggage size suitcase for every seat. Range about 7.000 miles (ETOPS certified). Capable of departing from relatively short runways. Target users would be LCCs.

Because of it's long range this aircraft would really be a game-changer. You can now connect smaller airports with each other over longer distance where there's too little demand to fill a bigger aircraft. Because of the larger overhead bins no hand luggage needs to be put in the hold, which doesn't have to be big either because on LCCs most people don't have checked luggage anyway.

Ok here's mine: two efficient engines, different models ranging from 100 seats to 1,000 seats, capable of flying 20,000nm nonstop but still efficient in shorter flights, STOL capability as well as dirt/gravel/grass runways, flies almost the speed of sound but can also fly st very low speeds for takeoff and landing.

I'd essentially make a "757 MAX" with a slightly wider fuselage. Specifically the -300 model. Of course, with new engines and wing design, FBW, composite materials, and a large screen glass cockpit. With all those changes, I'd hope for maybe 5000nm range.

Why? Because 757.

Easy.. 757 with 787 technology and advances.. 200-220 seats.. 5800nm.. NEXT Next gen GE Engines (20% more efficient than any made today)..

I have made two.

1. 2x turboprops. 18 seats. Retractable undercarriage. (looks a bit like Let L410)

2. 4x highly efficient engines. 390-430 seats, wide-body. tall roof, big overhead bins, allowing check-in size luggages for every seat. range 17,500km. (ETOPS certified. ) certified for airports like Barra. targets would be the Middle East Big Three, the USA Big Three, QANTAS and other australian airlines. Very unrealistic, I know, but wow, I would love it. Also: 2 Pilots. 8-16 crew.
