Boeing 747 in Canada

Tue Jun 13, 2017 5:40 pm

As you can tell by my username, 747's are my life. I live in Kelowna BC, which cannot fit 747's. I want to fly from vancouver to edmonton. Any 747 flights I can catch there? Much appreciated! Airline doesn't matter.

Unless you plan a four leg trip to another country, no. You'd have to go to Asia (Korea more than likely) and find a way home from there.

There haven't been any domestic 747 operations within Canada since the early 2000s when AC would sometimes rotate them through the network. Currently your only options for 747 ops out of YVR would take you to Europe or Korea.

And a word of advice ... don't put it off.

Once an airplane type starts to be retired, it goes fast. How quickly we went from 727s or DC-9s (for example) being everywhere to "is any airline still flying them". The 747 won't be any different. Especially with the number of used, but very capable Triples on the market.

As others have said you're out of luck for a domestic run but given how insanely expensive flying is domestically in Canada you can likely hop a flight to Korea and back for a little more if you watch prices. A friend of mine recently did YVR-ICN return for <$650. Which is only about $150 more than YVR-YEG return typically is.

Pratt and Whitney has a 747-SP they fly around Canada..Maybe if you stand on the side of the runway with your thumb out they can give you a ride!

Seeing that we've had the AN124 in YLW, technically, a 747 could fit there ;)

Your best bet would be YVR or YYZ - nothing out of YEG or YYC for the 747.

This looks like it may be your last chance at a North American 747 flight:

Jump on it quick ... it may not last long.
