Should the previous AA livery remain on some aircraft?

Fri May 19, 2017 1:21 am

Should the previous AA livery remain on some aircraft as a 'retro' paintjob? I personally prefer the previous soon-to-be-gone livery and it would be sad to see it disappear completely.

Oh yes! No doubt about it. Their previous color scheme was so iconic and ageless. So sad to see it go away.

Let it go...

"Retro" livery doesn't mean anything if it never left. It needs to be gone for a while before it's brought back. Otherwise it's just a plane they neglected to repaint.

Ageless? I'd rather call it heavily outdated. It consists of cheatlines and bare metal, that's something from the 1970s or 1980s or something like that. That's in the past, time to move on. I think American Airlines was actually late updating their livery, they held on to their previous livery for far too long. Glad to see it gone.

Besides, it would be impossible to paint it on their future fleet since metal is mostly being replaced by fiber materials and such. That makes a bare metal livery impossible, it just has to be painted. Luckily their new livery consists of fully painted aircraft like any modern airline nowadays.

I'm not a huge fan of the new livery, but it's time to move on. AA will most likely have a few as their "retro" paint schemes.

Yeah, I will miss it, be nice if they make a retro fleet.

When AA announced they were purchasing the 77W I was full of anticipation to see that bird in AA's classic livery. And then. . . it never happened. :(

Of course not. An aircraft that isn't made of metal can't be in a bare metal livery. It can be in a bare fiber livery, but that's ugly.

AA's 772's were delivered with their polished metal livery, were the 77W's not also made with metal?
