Air Koryo's Hamburger--The Patty, The Bun, The Legend

Fri Apr 28, 2017 5:01 am

I never knew that Air Koryo's interpretation of the hamburger actually has a bit of a following. For me, boy the beer would have to be flowing really steady to be able to keep that down...

http://www.news.com.au/travel/world-tra ... cb9fe9d996

Article quote:

"North Korea’s state-run airline serves its passengers only one item of food.
The Koryo Burger is always served stone cold — straight from the fridge — on a paper doily with an unidentified slice of processed meat in the middle.
The bun is stale, there’s a slice of processed cheese, a few wispy slices of shredded cabbage or a single lettuce leaf (but usually not both).
Some say the mystery sauce is red, some say it’s brown, but most generally agree it’s too watery to be blood left over from the animal that became the patty."

Even though this is blatantly untrue

Maybe they meant "economy passengers", but after seeing them cite a Skytrax report as some sort of credible analysis of the airline, I doubt accuracy and attention to detail was a primary concern when writing this piece.

That's an article quote, just to be clear.

That's a hell of a lot more appetizing than the crap I received on Jinair, a low cost airline flying out of South Korea.

Even a five second Google Images search shows that this article is B.S.

What would possess someone to write this?

The link was meant to "showcase" the burger only. And google images can be pretty random.

So what's the point or intention of this whole thread? Bashing on Air Koryo or not bashing on Air Koryo?

No... No... We're bashing the misinformed media when they talk about aviation!

I was just taken aback that a reporter from the LA Times would tweet that this was the "only burger with its own cult following". Has she not heard of her own city's cult burger chain?

I have never, Never, EVER understood the hype that this place puts on such a shitty chain sandwich.

Fimme Fatburger or Big Boy, any day.

Agreed. I really think its the novelty of the chain. Not every city or state has one. I have to drive a minimun of 2 hours to get to one, and after the wait in the drive thru last time and lack of quality, I'm not sure that the hype is deserved.

Hell, even Wendy's makes a better sandwich, or a non chain local joint.

I live in L.A., and it's my permanent home for the foreseeable future; but I'm from the Deep South, where the one thing we do know better than anyone else is comfort food. Especially fried food.

And In-N-Out is ...just ...not ...that good.

I didn't grow up here under the indoctrination, so I guess I'm just able to see it. The hype is incredibly undeserved.

Bah. If you're going to get hyped over chain fast food, then do it over Raising Canes, which we've FINALLY just now gotten in SoCal.

The Burger is damn good actually - no idea of the meat or if its real or fake, but it does taste nice. I would venture a guess that it is pork with a terikyaki or japanese plum flavour sauce, some rubber cheese, cabbage and mayo on a highly processed white bun. Every pax in Y class gets that (its that or nothing) along with a choice of water or local cider (nonalcoholic - super sweet, was gross). It actually reminds me of MOS Burger

My guess is that the patties are made out of soy and flavored with something. Just a guess.

As with all fanaticism, there's hope for you to be deprogrammed.

Start with an Avacado Burger from Bob's BigBoy in Burbank.... add Bacon if you don't do kosher. :-P

you could very well be right, actually. However, foreigners in DPRK are showered with meat (to show that they are not in famine and to show off local produce), so it could still be just highly processed.

I'm from Michigan and I've been hearing about In-n-Out on the Internet for years. It's the most hyped fast food chain in the country by far. A couple years ago I was in San Jose for a conference and I finally got to try the one, the only, the exalted king of fast food in this country...

...and it was terrible.

Burger King makes a better burger. Wendy's makes a wayyy better burger. Hell, even a McDonald's cheeseburger is not without its charm. The In-N-Out burger was boring and flavorless, and the fries were just plain awful. They were undercooked and floppy, like oven-baked fries from a high school cafeteria. In a world where the well-deserved King of Fast Food French Fries, McDonald's, is available down the street, In-N-Out needs to step up their fry game. I was sorely disappointed in the whole experience. I understand that most of the mystique surrounding In-N-Out comes from the vaunted Secret Menu, but if their baseline product is that bad then they're really hurting. If you're from SoCal and the Double-Double is your favorite burger, you need to get out more. Like, to McDonald's.

That's the crazy part: they're not hurting, at all.

Their burgers taste like roadkill covered in lettuce, but people here flock to it in such numbers that they're printing money.

Especially the ones at LAX or in Hollywood near Orange St., good luck not encountering a line that stretches a quarter mile or more. It's truly bizarre.

Yep.

Also, DPRK beer was free, but bottled water wasn't.

Yeah which really annoyed me actually as I don't drink beer!

Hey, at least they serve you food. Many U.S. carriers will only give you a cup of soda for a similar length flight.
