IR's new IFE

Tue Apr 18, 2017 12:58 am

Iran Air's new 321 and 330 got some nice modern interior but I'm wondering a bit what kind of entertainment they are going to offer to passengers. Several years ago I had the pleasure of flying FRA-IKA-FRA with their 306 and entertainment was the only thing I really could complain about, although the excitement of flying such a classic airbus from an "exotic" airline was more than enough entertainment for me :hyper:
Anyway, the installed PTV sure offers much more possibilities than the old overhead monitors and cinema-style projectors but what will IR offer? Is it going to be Iranian productions only, or is there any chance that international productions or even Hollywood movies could be shown?
IR is owned and run by the state so I am really doubtful that there will be great liberties.
At least the air show should be a done deal though :D
What is your opinion about this?

I believe Iran has a flourishing cinema industry in its own right, movies that are exported within the Middle East. I would imagine Bollywood would also feature strongly.

They could have western shows on lifestyle, sports, kids stuff, games, not sure aboutTV shows and movies, since they will be tragetting more fifth freedom with new aircraft I guess Indian and Chinese content would also make it.

Bollywood films, especially the song sequences may be considered too vulgar in some cultures with all the heaving bosoms & pelvic thrusts.

Iranian cinema is BRILLIANT! I would fly IranAir just to watch some old classics!

I didn't want to talk bad about Iranian cinema. I was rather curious if certain movie contents (like nudity) would simply be censored. I would think that Saudia might also have certain restrictions although Saudi Arabia does not have this governmental "death to America" attitude. I'm not even sure how EY, EK, or QR are dealing with unislamic movie contents.
Maybe I'm just thinking too much in political dimensions

Actually they probably will, Emirates have them as part of their inflight maps programme

I haven't flown on IR but I could extrapolate a bit based on experiences with EK, EY, QR, FZ & SV.

EK, EY & QR have pretty good selections of movies & TV shows from all across (Hollywood, Bollywood, Chinese, French, etc). Scenes with nudity are just cut out (like in cinemas here).
SV also has some movies from Hollywood, Bollywood & other countries. Besides nudity being cut out, also scenes where any skin shown on the arms (above the elbow), legs (above the knee) and below the neck gets blurred out (it's quite hilarious - completely innocent scenes become needlessly "adult"). I imagine a similar treatment with IR.

I am sure that it will have Mr. Bean, hidden/candid camera shows and cartoons - SV plays these on the main screens of their aircraft.

Thank you Ro for this information.
I can really imagine that this blurring adds an extra "adult" character to many scenes. That reminds me a bit of Jimmy Kimmel's unnecessary censorship :D

Regular 330 service to Europe starts soon, so we will find out what IR will actually do.

Havent noticed blurring on Saudia, but they did add exact colour bits to low necklines matching the garment, looked real.
