One-stop-to-the-World Motto. Who follows it?
Over the years, I've noticed that airports often advertise that you are "one stop from the world." This had me wondering, is there any airport in the world where you can take just one stop and get to any airport? Maybe not every airport, but most? I would think somewhere like DXB would be a good canidate.

Well according to Wikipedia, ATL, ORD, DFW, LHR, FRA, MUC, CDG, AMS, IST and DXB are the only 10 airports in the world to offer service to 200 or more destinations so I'd call them strong contenders.
Although if I had to narrow it down to a smaller circle I'd guess it would be either one of LHR, FRA, AMS or CDG.
Those have a big number of longhaul destinations on foreign airlines that allow you travel on in their respective country.
For example on the other side ATL, DFW or ORD get their numbers of destinations mainly from the huge number of US domestic destinations. Domestic flying isn't that big of a thing in Germany, France, GB and most certainly not in the Netherlands.
In a one-stop way all these US destinations are however reachable from every major European airport too, because e.g. in FRA, AA offers service to DFW, UA/LH to ORD and DL to ATL.
I believe IST and more so DXB won't be making the cut because the business model of their home carrier relies on feed coming into the airport and connecting at the IST and DXB end. IST might be making up for it since TK is in Star providing more onward connections at the outer end of the routes but EK is not in any alliance.
So I guess the winner in this category would be one of the 4 big European hubs.

I think Toronto would be a contender. Multiple direct flights to major cities in China, Japan, South Korea etc. which from those points covers all of Asia. AC has direct flights to Delhi, Mumbai and Dubai which pretty much covers the Middle East and India extremely well with 1 stop. Europe, North America & Caribbean are all covered very well. South America is also pretty much one stop between PTY, BOG, LIM, GIG, GRU, SCL, EZE etc. The major cities in Australia/NZ are covered 1 stop via YVR or LAX, as are most of the Pacific Islands from LAX or HNL. The only tricky one would be Africa, Egyptair or Ethiopian would provide the best 1 stop to the most destinations in Africa.
If you really break it down and think about it, you can pretty much get anywhere in the world, 1 stop from any major city. It might not always be the most cost effective but it is still do-able.

Been flying Turkish via IST a few days ago. There I've an advertisement, that IST is the airport which serves the highest number of different countries. Unfortunately the airport is totally overloaded.

Between IST, DXB, AKL/SYD, YYZ, and perhaps GRU, you've got much of the world covered.
