A340-300 Operators and Routes

Wed Apr 12, 2017 6:45 pm

Good afternoon:

Can we compile a list of A340-300 ROUTES by OPERATORS?

This underpowered beast will not be around forever:

Only in large service with

Air France
Swiss
SAS
Lufthansa
Edelweiss
Air Tahiti Nui
Aerolineas Argentinas
PAL
SAA
Mahan
TAP
Turkish

You can add Kuwait Airways to that list. They have 3 of their 4 left and typically do DAC, JED, BOM and BKK.

Unfortunately not. They retired their last A343s in October last year.

I recall taking a tour round what I was led to believe was the final A343 produced, F-OLOV for Air Tahiti Nui at the Paris Air Show, 2005 in that glorious livery. Anyone able to confirm this was the last of the type built ? I still see her pass overhead my home on her north-west bound sectors over Scotland heading between CDG And LAX.

OH-LQE was built in 2008 (cn 938)...and there is one more VIP example after that.

As for routes, Air France, Swiss, and Scandinavian occasionally send them to JFK or EWR.

SAS do not fly JNB-HKG, neither with the A340 nor with something else. Do you mean SAA?

Swiss will switch to the B77W on the 17Apr17 on the ZRH-SFO turns, up until then it's a mix of B77W/A343

Are the southern routes that LATAM (LAN), SAA, Qantas, and Aerolineas Argentinas fly still ETOPs-free routes? What are these airlines going to do when their A340s/747s get too old and need to be retired?

I'm not 100% sure but I think ETOPS 240 is required? So twins fly a little further north.

LA and NZ run 787's AKL-SCL/EZE and LA will start SCL-MEL non stop with a 789 this year aswell. AR no longer fly the route since they retired the A342 fleet in 2014. QF run 744's SYD-SCL and SYD-JNB which will likely be some of the very last 744 routes for QF by which time twins should be able to do it. SA run an A343 JNB-PER, and an A333 usually JNB-GRU? MK run an A332 MRU-PER.
