What are world's shortest jet routes? I heard about a short vienna flight in e170 but still wondering if there are more routes like this.

Any inputs?

I guess by comparison, DHL and FedEx flights between Sint Maarten (SXM) and Saint Martin (SFG) -- which is six miles -- is a great distance. :)

Yes but that's with the caravan. Not with a jet

I remember when Air Wisconsin flew United express BDR-HVN-ORD. BDR-HVN is 16 miles. The BAE-146 was used and since HVN had longer runways, BDR was a one stop to ORD.

That's a good read, but the shortest route in North America (not talking jets here...sorry a bit off topic) is not the new Niagara-Toronto Island flight at 52km.

Island Express out in BC operates Abbotsford-Boundary Bay up to 2x/day and it's 47km. There may be others that are even shorter...again but not a jet route.

In Canada, YOW-YUL is usually the shortest jet route at 152km. AC have operated YYJ-YVR, but not at the present time.

Brazzaville Maya Maya (BZV)-Kinshasa N'djili (FIH) must be one of the shortest at 26 km/14 nm. The route is flown with 737s.

IAH-BPT is a whopping 79 miles.
IAH-EFD is an agonizing 28 miles.

Both of these have been flown by Continental Express Emb-135/145s. Today, IAH to Beaumont service is provided by an internal combustion-powered Groundbus. :)

I just read that Viennaline have only this week cancelled the 21km short hop to Friedrichshafen on their E170 which I think was launched very recently. So we are looking for a new candidate for the shortest flight!

United is beginning SFO - Santa Rosa service starting June 8 in a CR2. 64 miles.
The theory is that folks flying from outside the Bay Area will use the connection to get to wine country faster. (Can't imagine anyone living in the Bay Area taking the flight).

Loganiair's service from WRY to PPW is 2.8km between two of the Orkney Islands in Scotland.

There's a 2:01 minute video of the whole flight here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q08N2b-FBng

I wouldn't call the Islander a jet aircraft though.

Yes that is correct, People's Viennaline's ACH-FDH flight (13 miles, international and overwater) will be discontinued in less than 2 weeks, last day of operation will be April 14. This was enough reason for me to book it for next Thursday as I live nearby and I always wanted to do this flight. It's very cheap too. So if you want to experience this, now is the time to do it!

My shortest flights:

DL ATL-AGS M80
DL AGS-SAV M80
US AVL-CLT 733
DL AVL-ATL 732

The last flight of the day from Atlanta to Savannah made a stop in Augusta, Georgia to pick up and drop off passengers. The other flights were all nonstop. It was cool to fly two domestic segments (under the same flight number) within Georgia on a larger plane versus a commuter/propeller plane!

A couple of other short ones I've done, both on the same trip as it happens.
CLT-CAE on American Eagle CRJ7. 88 miles
PHL-LGA on American Eagle E175. 95 miles

They do quite regularly though. Just last week they had a few CRJ subsitutions. 39 miles.

And at 50km, that not only is another route that beats Niagara-Toronto, but is on jet aircraft to boot! YQQ-YBL at 39km is even shorter still, but is on SF3 and BE1 props.

True but those are subs. At one time there was mainline daily on it.

Gone are the days of mainline UA flying SFO-OAK.

OK, I'm sorry, but I have to ask ... Abbotsford to Boundary Bay? What is that market for that one?

People that have the $ to avoid GVA traffic...the one-way fare is comparable to what a cab ride would cost. Also, Boundary Bay is a pit stop before hopping over to points on Vancouver Island. Clearly there's enough of a market for it to exist.

This is going back a bit, but I have a TWA timetable from 1980 that shows one daily flight from FLL-MIA which is 47 miles. It continued on to STL.

Delta was flying MIA-FLL as a tag into the early 2000s i believe... don't know when exactly that stopped... they even flew it with 767-400s at one point (and L1011s for many years).

AA Eagle also operates jets (CR2) on PHL-ABE. That's 55 miles (89km) !!!

Shortest in Germany, after the termination of the infamous Friedrichshafen-Altenrhein flight, is MUC-NUE at 85 miles (137km). Operated multiple times daily with a mix of LH mainline A319 and LH Cityline E190/CR9s.

Shortest flight I've made was just under 40 miles from Gibraltar to Tangier on a BA 737. Think Royal Air Maroc flies the route these days.

As far as I know, yes. Asky flies between the cities a few times per week.

The shortest scheduled flight in a heavy jet that I was on was a HA B767 HNL-OGG, which is about 100 miles. We cruised at 12,000 feet for about 15 minutes in between take-off and landing.
