Ever fly on the same plane twice?

Tue Mar 21, 2017 2:25 am

Aside from some possible 737s, I flew on my first duplicate airplane of the same reg Sunday. I flew United 893 on Sunday from ICN-SFO on N121UA, the same exact aircraft that I flew to Sydney back in the August of 2013 (back then it was the Star Alliance bird)! Ironically, those are my only 747 flights; so I can say I've flown on one 747, 2 times!

Anyone else of similar stories?

I may have flown on the same 777 or 764 twice, but I would have to dig through to find that, does anyone know how I can do that?

What comes to mind right now:

Condor's D-AIAA
Germanwing's D-AGWK

and some others on tag on flights like MU's Sydney - Nanjing - Beijing service or LH's FRA - JED - ADD for instance.

I think I have 3 or 4 aircraft I've flown on more than once at different points in time, but the most interesting one to me just happened a few days ago. On Dec 19th 2016 I flew Westjet's 737-700 C-GMWJ from YYZ-FLL in seat 11E and yesterday (19th March) flew the same C-GMWJ from YYT-YYZ in 11E. I only realized when I plugged everything into my flightdiary and the registration seemed familiar. Now the seat assignment wouldn't be that big of a deal had I selected them when checking in but both of these legs were as a standby passenger and I was only assigned a seat by the gate agent during the boarding process. It was completely by chance that it was the same aircraft, and exactly 3 months to the day that I was sitting in that same seat.

I forget the registration, but a couple of years ago I flew SYD-MEL-SYD on QF and got the same exact A332 and was one row away on the return flight, like I was in 35A on one flight and 36B on the return flight. Which also those are my only two A332 flights. I'll laugh if I get the same A333 next month when I am flying QF SYD-HNL-SYD.

I flew on the same plane on the same trip. KUL-LAX & LAX-KUL 5 days later on MH's 777.

In fact, I believe I even flew with the same crew!

You would have had the same crew -- that rotation was a 5-day one for MH crews!

I once flew both legs of a flight on the same aircraft in 2000. SFO - HKG on a CX A343 that arrived at gate 4 (IIRC) in HKG. Deplaned went through security, walked up to the departures level to discover that my HKG - TPE flight was departing from gate 4 and I was on exactly the same aircraft. I joked with the crew that I shouldn't have bothered getting off!

Flew my user name ZK-NBT 744, AKL-BNE in 1999 and then again on a return AKL-MEL-AKL in 2011 so 3x.

Also flew QF 763 VH-OGF AKL-MEL-AKL in 2003 a few days apart.

There's probably a couple of NZ733's I flew more than once, I don't have all the rego's though.

A couple of years ago as part of a LHR-AKL-LHR round trip on Emirates, I had A380 A6-EEI on the LHR-DXB leg. Two weeks later on the return journey DXB-LHR, I had A6-EEI again.

I also had Virgin Atlantic A340-600 G-VSHY on an LHR-LAX leg in 2009, and had the same aircraft on the return trip one week later.

Indeed, went from PHL-LHR on 2/24 on AA using N273AY, and weirdly enough took the same aircraft back on 2/26. Side note, I hear so many people say that AA's 333 fleet is showing their age, it didn't feel like it honestly, was quite nice!

Flew Ryanair's EI-DHN on NRN-TLL in September 2015 and it operated the return flight a week later as well.

Yes, both known and unknown, if that makes sense because I don't always keep track of registrations.

-I flew Cathay Pacific's 744 B-HUB on consecutive flights in the same seat (02K) about 5 days apart, LHR-HKG and HKG-BKK.
-Jetblue's A321 N945JT on JFK-LAX then on my next flight LAX-JFK three days later.
-BA's 772, G-VIIG in the same seat about 3yrs apart, LHR-IAD and LHR-DXB. Also flown it at least two other times between LHR and IAD
-I've also flown on some of BA's 744s more than once because I've flown more 744 flights on BA than they have had in their fleet, similarly with BA's shorthaul 767s and A319s

Between 2003 and 2008, I managed to fly 23 of Midwest's 25 717s, and got repeats of most of them (more than a few of the crews were the same, too- that was a nice thing about them!)

Aside from those, here are some others I've gotten multiple times:
-N633SK (SkyWest CRJ-700)- 3x
-N171HQ (Republic ERJ-190)- 5x
-N175HQ (Republic ERJ-190)- 4x
-N606SK (SkyWest CRJ-700)- 2x, 9 days apart
-N914DE (Delta MD-88)- 2x

Re: Ever fly on the same plane twice?

Just had the first such encounter back in January. I flew Airbus A321 N661NK Fort Lauderdale to San Pedro Sula. That same aircraft took me Fort Lauderdale to Atlantic City last July.

EDIT: That was actually the fifth such experience!

First one was my first widebody back in December 2010. US Airways 767-200 N256AY took me from Philadelphia to Orlando. About three and a half years later, N256AY would fly the first leg of my journey to St. Maarten when she took me Philadelphia to Charlotte.

Second one, returning from St. Maarten in 2014, jetBlue E190 N238JB (my first E90) took me SXM-SJU. I get df, enter the United States, go through security again, and there she is again, ready to take me back to FLL.

Third, I flew American's 737-800 N803NN. First, after Ultra on March 30th, 2015 from Miami to Philadelphia, and second on Philadelphia to Miami in October 2015. I honestly didn't catch that until now when I was looking at my FlightMemory!

Fourth, I caught the same US Airways A321 twice, both times between Philadelphia and Charlotte. N550UW took me to Charlotte to connect to Florida in July 2015 and September 2015.

DEC2010/JUL2014 N256AY 767-200
JUL2014/JUL2014 N238JB E190
MAR2015/OCT2015 N803NN 737-800
JUL2015/SEP2015 N550UW A321
JUL2016/JAN2017 N661NK A321

I'm almost certain I've taken N506NK, N510NK, and N607NK multiple times. However I forgot the dates of all my Spirit flights so I cannot confirm for sure. Also think I flew N943AT once or twice on AirTran before she started service with Delta.
I've also weirdly enough flown the same ship tail number on two different airlines. Flew on jetBlue's A320 N634JB and Virgin America's A320 N634VA.

Yes, flown on a Qantas 767-300/ER twice., VH-OGQ I think it was. And the Captain both times was a lady by the name of Georgina Sutton.

Most interesting ones in BA's 747 fleet:
G-BYGA - 6 times
G-CIVY - 5 times
G-CIVW - 5 times
G-CIVE - 5 times
G-BNLO - 5 times
From AA's 77Ws - N725AA - 5 times
And BA's and TAM's Airbus fleet - too many to mention.

I usually take (well, not now as they are retired) Tarom A310s, especially YR-LCA. But Tarom has a small fleet, so I guess I flew more than one of their airplanes more than once.

I also took twice PH-BCE B738 from KLM, one in 2014 and one in 2016, but both MAD-AMS. Also with Air Europa (actually SwiftAir) and Wizz I have repeated registrations, but that was more because there was only one aircraft based there or operating that particular route.

A funny contrast on mine. Don't recall registrations, but definitely had same exact plane on:

Colgan Air dba US Airways Express - Saab 340 between DCA and ALB (and reverse)
British Airways - 767 between LHR and CAI (and reverse)

On most cases, it was days or even a couple weeks apart. I tend to pick specific seats, so you start to notice details like when the scuffs on the wall, rips in the fabric or broken tray table are the same!

For two aircraft, yes.
-Hawaiian Airlines 717 N481HA on 12/22/16 and 1/1/17.
-Hawaiian Airlines A330 N370HA on 7/30/15 and on 1/1/17.
When you go to Hawaii on an airline that doesn't have very many airplanes, this tends to happen.

Don't know the Reg but I flew on a NWA DC-9 STL-DTW and then DTW-STL less then 24 hours between. Same seat same plane, gum still in the air sickness bag.

I kept a log for a year or two and I would say about twenty to twenty five percent of the time I flew on the same plane again. The most during that time was VH-YQW aka The Devil. It actually got to a point where I was quite disappointed that I couldn't add a new one to the list, maybe that is why I don't do it anymore! I also didn't get the ones I wanted even once, The Retro Roos for example.

:weeping:

Going back to -YQW I have even had the same seat selection, but I try and avoid that if possible. So routine!

Its quite a common occurrence if one flies often on the same routes.
I never keep track on the reg. no. but there are a bunch of TigerAir, JetStar and CebuPacific's A320s that I had flown, and still flying on, in the SIN-MNL-SIN sector.
Also the now defunct Sempati Air's Fokker 100s on SIN-JKT-SIN in the 90s. Ah, a couple of C-130B military transports too, in the the early eighties.
The only plane that I can vividly remember flying twice or more in (in this case at least 4 times) is not by the registration but by the name. That's Scoot's first Dreamliner "Dream Start" which on looking up right now on Google is 9V-OJA.

Edit to add: TG's A345, BKK-LAX-BKK sometime in 2011/2012. I recall a couple of the crew recognizing me on the return leg and me asking if it's also the exact same plane which they replied in the affirmative.
Maybe also BKK-FRA-BKK on TG in the noughties as I did this sector twice back then, but I'm not too sure whether its on same airplane twice.

As alrady mentioned, I guess if you fly with the same small airline, or the same route a number of times then this is going to happen. Particularly as some airlines will use the same 2-3 planes for a particular route (for example, Egyptair use SU-GDT almost on their CAI-LHR-CAI and CAI-DOH-CAI routes almost exclusively. I've also twice had a connecting flight which has used the same plane for both legs. Anyway... here's mine:

2x flights on KLM B737-800 PH-BXF LHR-AMS and AMS-LHR (June 2002)
2x flights on Austrian Arrows F100 OW-LVC TIA-VIE and VIE-MUC (April 2006)
3x flights on Belavia B737-500 EW-2519A MSQ-SXF (November 2011), MSW-DME (February 2010) and MSQ-LGW (December 2010)
2x flights on Virgin Atlantic B747-400 G-VROS (English Rose) LGW-HAV and HAV-LGW (January 2011)
2x flights on Egyptair A330-300 SU-GDT CAI-LHR and LHR-CAI (February/March 2012)
2x flights on Egyptair E170 SU-GCY CAI-SSH and CAI-LXR (August 2013 and April 2014)
2x flights on British Airways B767-300 G-BNWT CAI-LHR and LHR-CAI (February 2014 and June 2014)
2x flights on Emirates B777-300 A6-EGJ JNB-DXB and DXB-KUL (October 2014)
2x flights on Qatar B787-800 A7-BCD JNB-DOH and DOH-JNB (April/May 2015)
2x flights on Virgin Atlantic A340-600 G-VYOU JNB-LHR and LHR-JNB (June 2015)
3x flights on Kulula B737-800 ZS-ZWC CPT-HLA (January 2016), HLA-CPT (February 2016) and HLA-CPT (August 2016)
3x flights on Airlink RJ85 ZS-ASW PRY-CPT (May 2016 and PRY-CPT/CPT-PRY (September 2016)
2x flights on Qantas B747-400 VH-OJM JNB-SYD and SYD-JNB (November 2016)

So many times I have lost count. Literally dupes on an estimated 100 frames
ZKOAB/OJQ 12X/13X. All around new zealand. All domestic NZ A320s are a minimum of 4 sectors except the newest ones delivered this year.

My most frequent international aircraft is ZK-OKD 7 sectors
AKL-HKG (2)
HKG-AKL (2)
NRT-AKL (1)
KIX-CHC (1)
CHC-AKL (1)

I flew 9VSVH twice 10 years apart.AKL-SIN and SIN-MNL. I had only flown that airraft in their 772 fleet...and they had a massive fleet at time

I have dupes on a few Qantas aircraft in recent years

VH-EBB x2 (Flew once as Jetstar, once as Qantas)
VH-EBQ x3
VH-EBR x2/3 (You could say, but we had to get off one time after returning to the gate, getting a substitute aircraft)

I did during Friday and returned Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend 2016. I flew from Guam to Busan and back on Jeju Air. Both planes were HL8050.

In fact, one of the flight attendants remembered me as I was the only non Korean passenger when I flew to Busan. I was pleasently surprised when I saw her on the return flight and that she remembered me.

That has happened a couple of times for me.

N753NW Detriot (DTW) to Syracuse (SYR) DC-9 6/29/1997 Northwest Airlines
N753NW Detroit (DTW) to Indianapolis (IND) to Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP) DC-9 4/20/2003 Northwest Airlines

N476HA Hilo (ITO) to Honolulu (HNL) B-717 "Elepaio" 2/16/2009 Hawaiian Airlines
N476HA Lihue (LIH) to Honolulu (HNL) B-717 "Elepaio" 2/15/2010 Hawaiian Airlines

EI-DDH Los Angeles (LAX) to Rome (FCO) B-777 7/10/2010 Alitalia
EI-DDH Rome (FCO) to New York (JFK) B-777 7/27/2010 Alitalia

N15555 Ontario (ONT) to Tucson (TUS) EMB-145RXR 9/26/2007 Express Jet
N15555 Albuquerque (ABQ) to Ontario (ONT) EMB-145XR 9/30/2007 Express Jet

Of course, if you count through flights on Southwest, and other "tag on" flights on airlines such as Great Lakes, I have been on the same plane for multiple flight sequences. I listed, though, only the times when I have been on the same plane as different flights. Also, I didn't keep track of my registration numbers in the 1980's and 1990's, so I only have what is available after 1995, when the BTS website provided the registration numbers.

Interesting one was my flights on Spirit. Plane from PDX-LAS, was exact same plane LAS-PDX 3 days later.
Also, one of the 757s was a funny story, take the redeye with a friend to JFK from SLC, connecting to SJU. We don't know JFK very well and we get off the plane and trying to find our next gate, turned out it was the plane we just got off of.

My mother used to work for Continental Express in training scheduling for pilots. She knew the pilots that picked up N15555 from Embraer on the delivery flight and each plane came with a commemorative model with the same reg as the plane. The pilot who flew N15555 gave the model to my mom to give to me for Christmas when I was a child. My brother is also an FA for Express Jet and has worked on that plane quite a few times. N15555 is kinda part of the family!

My only two A330 flights were on the same A332 VH-EBM. MEL to PER and the return 12 days later. Was even in the same seat.

Then there is the JQ 787-8 I did a day trip to the Gold Coast on. Got off and just rejoined the line to board again.

Flown the same aircraft twice in a few cases, but my most memorable one is flying LV-FVM 3x in 1 trip. We arrived at AEP in the evening on -FVM and the next morning (some 8-10h later), it operated our AEP-GIG flight. 2-3 days later, the same aircraft operated our GIG-AEP as well. Talk about 'bad luck'...
Atleast it was a brand new aircraft at the time, so it was spotless and clean.

If you're on an airline with a relatively small fleet, the chances are much higher that you'll repeat the same aircraft. I've traveled on the same airplane several times on Hawaiian (330 and 717), El Al (747 and 777), and even JetBlue. These three airlines also give names to their aircraft, so it's especially easy to spot a repeat aircraft.

I flew an American Eagle (PSA) CRJ-900 (N571NN) to CLT on a business trip last fall, then 4 days later flew the exact same plane on the return route. I don't usually pay that much attention to registration, but the plane had really squeaky brakes so after the return flight (with the squeaky brakes again) I was curious. Was originally scheduled to be on a different return flight but I voluntarily gave my seat up on an earlier flight for a flight voucher.

4x Ryanair EI-DHF and 3x on Ryanair EI-DAI, EI-DCK, EI-DLW and EI-DPZ. I have 27 aircraft I have flown twice on, of which 19 are also Ryanair. The other aircraft are from Air Aruba (P4-MDD), Air Asia X (9M-XAB), Easyjet, Easyjet Switzerland, Germanwings and KLM Cityhopper.

2x N529JB Airbus A320 JetBlue Airways (JFK-MCO and LAX-JFK by about 2.5 years)
2x N975DL McDonnell Douglas MD-88 Delta Air Lines (BDL-ATL, ATL-BDL by about 3 days, same flight number)
2x N738CB Boeing 737-700 Southwest Airlines (BDL-BWI, BWI-PUJ same day, different flight numbers)
2x N8307K Boeing 737-800 Southwest Airlines (MCO-BWI, BWI-MCO same day, different flight numbers)

Based on my increase of flying though, I'm pretty lucky to usually get different aircraft. I've also had a close one: flew on both N916DE and N916DL, lol.

I flew JAX-ATL-CHS all the way through of the same MD-88 a few months ago, then I flew N292JB CHS-FLL-JAX on the same trip!
I've also flown N903DE three separate times.

Also not the same plane, but I've flown N993AT and N993DL on the same route (ATL-MYR, same timing (9:30PM departure), in the same seat (11A), just about a month apart.

I don't frequently track regs (typically only on airlines or types I fly very infrequently), but two come to mind immediately - and one of them was already listed by someone else on this thread!

Those two are F-HPJH, which I flew IAD-CDG and then CDG-IAD less than a week apart, and TF-FII (listed earlier on this thread), which I flew IAD-KEF and KEF-IAD roughly 10 days apart. Both of those duplicates were outbound and return of the same journey.

I'm sure I've got some dupes among UA 737s, 777s, and A320s, but those are lost to history.
