Trains to/from Pisa airport

I am flying to Pisa next Saturday and travelling on to Florence.

It is many years since I flew to Pisa but it seems that the airport railway station has closed since I was last there and depending on which website I look at get conflicting advice on how to get to the main train station in Pisa from the airport - I have read that there is now a light rail service of some description that acts as a shuttle between the airport and the main train station whilst others suggest that I will have to take a bus.

Can anyone give me a definitive answer as to what the situation is - and if there is a choice between bus/train which is more efficient route - I know its not that far so probably doesn't make a lot of difference to the journey time.

Many thanks

I walked from the airport to the Central Station a couple of years ago. It is a 20 minute walk in a residential area. PSA is really inside the city.

However I checked what you say about the people mover, and it shows that a brand new people mover (like Orlyval) entered in service yesterday. And free until March 26.

SCQ83 - thanks for clarifying that. Looks like we may even get a free trip on the people mover on Saturday. I guess some of the confusion has arisen as it is no near to the transition date and not all websites have caught up.

Just in case anyone is interested the PISAMOVER is up and running - it is €2.70 single to Pisa railway station and takes about 5 minutes. Turn left when you come through the arrivals hall and its about 100m walk. It makes one stop at the long term car park. Its a two car monorail - almost counts as flying!
