August 1988 - Alitalia FCO-BOM-SIN-MEL-SYD. Wow that was a long trip! Still have the Y class menu for each sector somewhere in the loft.

For me, the one and only flight on a 747 was from VHHH to KSFO, February 19th, 2017. I was non-reving back to KORD, but the flight was weight restricted. That forced me to go through KSFO. I got a window seat so I had a great view on takeoff and landing over the bay area.
KORD > RJAA > KORD day trip? Why not! The beauty of non-reving.
Yes, I use ICAO codes
Flown: PA-28, PA-38
Passenger on: A319/A320 737, 747, 757, 767, 777, 787-8
Finally got on a 747!

I work for United Airlines, but I don't speak for the company.

Wardair charter in 1975 from YVR-LGW...I was only 17 but my aunt took me up to the lounge upstairs and we sampled aperitifs. Benedictine, B&B, Grand Marnier, Amaretto....I tried them all! I remember looking out the window on that first 747 flight and seeing the engines swaying on the wings. I thought they were going to fall off!

Nice, who knew you could fly nonstop from Hilton Head Island, SC to SFO? And on a 747 too! I didn't even realize they runway was that long. :spin:

I actually thought this was about the first 747 commercial flight, I would love to know what each US airline's first route on it was.

My first 747 was on Pan Am in 7/91 from LAX-JFK, the flight was continuing onto NCE. It wasn't my first PA flight but I am glad I got to fly their 747 during their last few months. With their desperate mileage promotion in an attempt to raise cash to survive, one domestic roundtrip CLT-LAX with a connection in JFK earned me enough points for a domestic ticket which could be used on UA, and the ticket itself was dirt cheap, only $238 or $258 I believe. I was in CLT the day they ceased operations and had to drive to ATL to redeem the the certificate to get issued on UA as they had either already pulled out of CLT a few weeks or months before, or the ticket counter was closed, I think it was the former though. I got there and the PA agent had just shut the place down. I begged him to issue me the ticket but he wouldn't, he let me know he was ending his 20 plus year career with Pan Am so he really couldn't have cared less some 21 year old drove 4 hours one way to redeem his miles. Can't say that I blame him. I am pretty sure I went out in ATL that night and made it a fun trip anyways.

The only other 747 I flew on was UA SFO-KOA roundtrip in 12/00. It was scheduled on a 200 but the flight back was up-gauged to a 400, which I was very happy about.

Lol, no, I'm talking about Hong Kong. There is a "V" before the "HHH". As my signature says, I prefer ICAO codes to the IATA codes.
For airports it's more logical and structured. For airlines, there are no duplicates.

I'm surprised so many people remember the exact routing they took and the dates from so long ago... all I remember is that mine was flying into PDX sometime in the 1970's on Northwest, in "Northwest Orient" livery. I remember getting there very late at night. And that's all I remember.

Almost certainly a Continental 742 from Auckland to Brisbane (I want to say - may have been Sydney).

Never made it onto a -100 or an SP overall.
Bollocks.

United 747SP (ex Pan Am), spring late 80s, LAX-MEL and back with a stop in SYD both directions. First Class, lower deck. Brian Dennehy (actor) sat two rows behind. Spent a big part of the flight talking with FAs about their most famous passengers. Carol Channing apparently brought her own fried chicken to eat. Potable water system froze up towards the end of the flight to SYD - no coffee.

1972 SYD-LHR. with BOAC. Can't remember the full route detail but it was many interesting stops (many of which are now in no go zone areas) and took 36 hours travelling with an 18 month old and a four year old without stepping off the aircraft at any stops.
Then again in 1975 for a return trip with BA.
The return in 1972 was aboard a Vickers Viscount VC10. One and only time on that bird.
Since 2000 have been fortunate to fly the 747 on many occasions. Sometimes in economy others in Business. Many airlines QANTAS, Malaysia, Thai, Lufthansa and Singapore. Upper deck of Singapore was possibly the best in my opinion.
