As it starts in 1990 the 737MAX and A320neo seem a bit odd to me. For long range you've provided year numbers, but for the rest you didn't. Maybe you should.

I'm not sure if this counts, but let's imagine that Pan Am somehow survives past 1991, narrowly avoiding its true fate. It downsizes significantly internationally, expands domestically, and cost-cuts several aspects of their inflight service (i.e. no free meals on flights under four hours, decreased legroom, and downsizing of premium cabins, moving to a two-class configuration). This leaves Pan Am creeping into LCC territory, garnering it some pretty bad press, with many mocking the airline whose name was once synonymous with glamour and luxury for behaving like the likes of Valujet and PeoplExpress. However, with the economic upswing of the 90's, Pan Am is able to gain back some of what it lost, placing orders for 747-400's and finally taking delivery of their A320's, which they had previously deferred delivery of. They narrowly make it through the post 9/11 downturn, but are able to claw their way back and place orders for 8 747-8's, the only US passenger airline to do so. They also become the US launch customer for the A350.

I thought about the idea of a Texas-regional airline that flies to a lot of under-served markets, something like Silver Airways. I'd call it "Bluebonnet Express", with bases in Dallas and Houston, and focus cities in Austin and San Antonio. Callsign Bluebonnet, ..... although I think "Alamo" may be an even cooler callsign, except I don't think it'd be good for an airline called "Bluebonnet", based in a city that isn't necessarily San Antonio. Maybe "Dillo", although I think I'd want the name to be a little more directly relevant to the airline than to the state.

I'd fly EMB120s for the really thin routes (like Angelo-Austin), and perhaps e145s for the bigger ones, or instead e170/190s within the Texas-Triangle.

The idea (though now unpopular) is an airline that serves a lot of under-served/unserved cities in Texas to the big cities (like Great Lakes). Codesharing with American and/or United would enable someone from say Lufkin to avoid the drive to DFW or IAH, and connect to anywhere in the US or the world from there. Or maybe just to fly from San Angelo to Austin. It would also be convenient to go through TSA at a smaller airport than to have to deal with it after the drive. I'm not sure if this concept would really survive on its own without some sort of EAS subsidies (yeah yeah, moocher express!).

Created by the merger of Continental, Frontier, & Texas International in 1980. Acquired Braniff's South American operations in 1982 along with Air Florida. In 1983 merged with PSA to strengthen LAX & SFO hubs. TWA acquired in 1985. Pan Am's Pacific operations in acquired in 1986. Piedmont acquired in 1989. Pan Am's Atlantic & Shuttle operations purchased in 1991.
